Just a thought, but you have replaced the engine oil?

Just thinking of the easy things to check before you panic.

yeah i had serviced it yesterday,

changed engine oil, atf

Wiggle yourself underneath and grab the starter, see if it moves about, it could be something as simple as loose bolts,

on a scale of 1 spanner, to whole socket set, how hard is removal of a starter on a 2nd gen???/

In one word, bitch, every thing is very tightly packed around it, reason i said to check and see if its loose, mine done the same as yours, thought bolax, got underneath to remove it, it was loose and moving around, so whoever done it last time, only done the bolts hand tight and gave up, like i said, time to get to know her,

yup thats what my problem WAS....... now just to try get reverse back :P

Maybe it's the reverse ghost, telling you to stop going backwards and start moving forward,

could the kickdown cable be the thing stopping reverse??? i had loosened my trying to replace it, but couldn't figure out how to change the gearbox end so i just put it back the way i found it

now me no go backwards

Maybe there is some air or crap stopping the oil getting to the reverse gears, will have a look at me aussie manual and see what it says.
