i need to know what gearbox model no you have, but generally,
To Disconnect kickdown cable, after removal from throttle linkage, release the drain plug from the oil pan and drain, then drop the front stabilizer bar,and tail shaft from vehicle.
3] loosen and withdraw pan retaining bolts, then using no, 09032-00100, brake the seal between the pan and case, lower pan.
4] detach the solonoid wire, then unclip the throttle from the valve body cam assembly.
5] loosen the throttle cable retainer bolt, then withdraw the cable assembly from the transmission case.

assembly, this may be the problem, bdt, maybe the solonoid wire is not connected, bigbobe, maybe you accidently broke or disconnected the wire.

1fit the cable assembly into place in the transmission case and retain with the securing bolt.
2] attach the throttle cable to the valve body cam assembly and reconnect the solonoid wire.
3] replace transmission oil pan with a new gaskeyt, tension all the pan bolt to correct torque specs, TORQUE TRANSMISSION OIL SUMP: 75KG-CM [65in-LB, 7.4Nm.
4] to fit a stopper to a new cable, follow previously descrideb procedure.
5] fit the front tail shaft and stabilizer bar to the vehicle, then retain the cable with the clamp and connect to the throttle linkage.

so the problem could be the cable or, gear linkage fit adjustment,

    Adjustment ofShift Linkage.
1] loosen the nut on the connecting rod.
2] [a] pull the transmission lever fully back,
[b] move the transmission lever 2 notches to the "neutral" position,
[c] place the shift lever at "neutral"
3.[a] hold the lever towards "reverse" position, tighten the connecting linkage rod nut.
    [b] road test vehicle.

    hope it helps.

right tomorrow i strip down gearbox sump,to try change cable, my local mechanic reckons its the torque converter ??? but without looking he couldnt be 100%, how do i adjust the kick down cable???? is it straight forward??? i will do some sort of write up for this cause it appears that a few people have had these problems, and i could find any walk throughs for it.....

You may as well clean the filter whilst you have the sump off. Other than that, it should just be a straight case on fresh gasket sealant on, (using just enough to make a secure seal, rather than having globs squishing out internally), and refill when sump back on.

It don't matter whether it was that or not. Just more fun to blame someone else. Hello Rich.

i just dropped the ARB and slide pan to 1 side, exhaust looks like a c*** to remove.... kick down cable was a nightmare to replace..... had to cut it as there is a "clamp" on top of gearbox between the enige and body you cant reach from underneath or above

so tmr i put it back together and hope for reverse, i was told it could be torque converter as a result of changing ATF

If it was the torque converter it would not drive forward as it's the box that changes direction not the engine
