I lived in the country for many years, the farmers round there didnt like horses for some reason, especially the one next door a right miserable gob$hite he was, ( I actually got shot at once) the point is, in my view, if you are going up a lane or even over a damn field, its land, you know, been sitting there for millions of years, will continue to sit there for another few million years, its not gong anywhere, you havnt attempted to steal it, just driven on it, whats the damn problem, ok so you may get a few ruts, give it a bit of rain and another truck driving on the proud bits it'll be flat in no time, aincient monuments, ok, mebbe not over them, but the land is the land, its not going to break.

Some folk just hate to see anyone have fun.

he seems to not like me or the car
back lane tickhill its a proper road 1 car wide with pull offs to let others pass
if i see his tractor i pull over in the nearest spot coz he will not wait or pull over
he just come right at you untill you go off the road then he wants to have a go about it ? freak
he phoned the cops once saying that a 4x4 was shooting on his land and ripping his crops up?
i was up there for hours and no other 4x4 were there or was any one shooting
      i own no gun
and iam a animal lover i cant hurt nothing like that
it took 45 mins of searchs off the cops before they let me go
if he had his way he would stop traffic useing that road

My house is part of a farm property. You would not believe the amount of people who pull up and park in my turning (private land), Throw all their rubbish out of their window onto private land. Take a pxss up my front hedge. Actually drive up my driveway to 3 point turn. Walk up my drive and between my house and garage to ask directions / find their 'off leash' dog (actually walk through to my back garden!) Knock on my door in the middle of nowhere to get directions at 9.30 at night. The list goes on....

Not being funny but if these types of things happened to people who live 'in town' on a weekly occurance then maybe they'd understand why the owners look so pee'd off. People seem to assume there are no boundaries in the sticks.

Just because it's not marked 'private' doesn't mean you have a right to drive up it.

So as most peoples houses have no 'private' signs then it's fine for me to walk up their front drives and into their back gardens. There is a big sign on my turning saying 'private land no turning' but I guess drivers are blind or something..

You're missing the point. It's obvious my drive is private (30 foot btw) yet people still assume its ok to use it to turn around. Whenever I've lived 'in town' nobody has ever driven up my drive to turn round.

                Rob.

Here's a pretty pic of my truck in my driveway. Taken from outside my kitchen window. The bush to the left is where my driveway starts.

I love the idea of green laning and am not against it at all. Just really hate seeing people tresspass and then getting self righteous when I know full well if I was to wander into their back garden and put a load of ruts in their lawn and say 'sorry mate but it wasn't signposted' they'd try to lynch me

                    Rob

Edit: Notice the oil stain - really must replace the front crankshaft seal

As Gordon says, there was very little room to turn and 6 trucks doing a 3 pointer in the guys back garden would have only escalated the situation.

We opted for what we thought was the quickest way to exit the guys land with the leat possible disruption and damage.

Remember we were trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation. It's all very well offering advice after the fact but going back down the original route would have created even more problems.

you did the right thing by explaining and oppologising to the farmer. shame he turned out to be a ####!
if he didnt listen to reason i would've done a 6 point turn on his front lawn/toes and done a dougnut in his garden and over his head!
i hate unwilling, unreasonable, unpleasant, stuck up, people like him who have no sense of common decency, understandabilty, and who have no idea what it is to be kind and neighbourly and compasionate to his fellow man.
"oh no a few cars drove don my road with TYRES on!!" what a looser.
i wouldve thought that being a farmer, 4x4's and farming kinda go hand in hand and so he would understand and symphasise with u guys.

cant mistake your drive for a green lane tho can ya

but its easy to see were a back garden starts and were one ends in a town
not the easy to see by eye out in the sticks
i lov green laneing and i know i have had my fair share so ups and downs with angery farmers
and all it has took would have been a sign saying no through road or private lnd/road no entery no tresspass
its not hard to ask and easyer to posicute if signed
every time i have had this with land owers/ farmers
its always been down to a simple sign sometimes its just over grown
other times its the same has you said about my back garden
my garden is fenced off damage to it brings its own troubles
to fence your garden off would proberly cost thousends and farms its just not possible cost way too much
a sign is a simple fence cross over it it brings the same problems has braking down a fence to get on the other side
                        thats knowingly tresspassing
in the eyes of law you have to be knowingly tresspassing
thats down to the land oweners to let you know
i had all this with british rail we own land next to it
its a fine line but easy to put right

                          So Goodcat,

You'd be perfectly fine if you was in your back garden with the missus and 6 or 7 blokes wandered up your drive and into your back garden uninvited ?

                          Rob.

funny that i had a a guy jump my back fence dog nearly ripped him to bits
i held the dog off and helped the guy
turned out he was running from some foren gangsta types (or so he said)
i helped him i evern took him to his mothers and gave him a bandage for his leg

if i was a farmer i would have shot him

Why are they in need ? - they're just wandering uninvited onto private property. I'd tell them to fxxx off. If they stayed I'd use force.

Sorry, but if you'd lived where I live for the last 5 years we would not be having this conversation.

                                Rob.

                                Edit:

I don't think many people understand the vulnerability of living in the country. There are no neighbours to notice if you're being burgled / assaulted etc.. You have to be on your guard. When I 1st moved here I had random people knocking on windows / doors asking if Sid / Bob / John etc.. were in.. Just people trying to find out if the house was empty. After a couple months it died down. (and yes I know the names of the people who lived here before me)
