Didn't want to make this a Nationalistic issue, I was stating a fact. But you're right, I don't particularly like being British.

We don't get much snow around here, but when we do, life, public transport, schools etc. go on. Up north where they get real snow, everything just carries on. Same as it does in Canada, America, Iceland Poland, Russia...
      Good call!

A soggy leaf on the track can stop a train in England you know.

Did I hear right today? Some tube lines were closed because of the weather? Aren't they underground??

And I'm not skint, what gave you that impression? As for always dark, in the summer it doesn't get properly dark at all, swings and roundabouts I think.
Snow in Scotland doesn't make the news because it snows there a lot. It's hardly a news worthy event. Here it's worse than it's been for 18 years so it is a news worthy event.

As for being skint, that was just a sweeping generalisation about Scotsman and was only meant in a good natured way. I should have said you're all skirt-wearing alcoholics

And see, it doesn't even get properly dark, what a terrible place....

Incidentally, like Apache, I don't blame you if you don't want to be part of Britain. Last time we had an election down here (Mayor of London, I think), I voted for the guy who wanted to dissolve Britain entirely so that we could all go back to being separate countries. I imagine someone in Northern Ireland would blow us up some more, but screw 'em.

I love it in the summer up here (even better up north), out in the garden 'till 2 am and even then it's only getting dusky.

The trains have to go above ground now and again to breathe.

Mate, I AM English, and proud of my heritage, but verging on ashamed of what this country is becoming.

We were once a great nation (and by that I mean as Great Britain) but it seems we no longer give a shit about being innovators and inventors. We care more about what the politically correct tw@ts in Brussels think about us.

They're like whales. When they come up, newspapers and crisp packets fly out the top.

In all seriousness, all but one (the Victoria line, if you must know) have overground sections, normally at the ends, and the depots are often there. They were delayed whilst they dug the trains out in the morning.

Fought my way to work over the A68 to Consett this morning, took about 10 mins longer than norm due to prats who couldnt cope with driving on snow, Then got a call from my gaffers saying that due to the adverse weather we should call it a day and go home, bless em. With any luck it will snow like hell all night and I will be woken up with a call to stay at home. I love snow me.

Why would you want to do that? No-one's falling out and it's nice to have a bit of a discussion from time to time. Or are you still talking about the bird box thing? Don't worry about that, loads of people think that too
