We just dont have the resources to sort ourselves out in snow...

It rarely happens so why waste £x amount on snow chains for buses etc.

At the end of the day i think alot of people just look at it as a bl**dy good excuse to stay in an enjoy a day off!

      Fairplay to them!

Theres a million other things i'd find embarresing about being british before what happens to us in snow ever bothered me.

After 10 flakes of snow had fallen every school around here closed, it's just the way people are conditioned now from school age.

To scared to take any chances or risk.

I agree with Rod, at least 70% of people are just using it as an excuse. How much money would it cost to be fully equipped just for 1-2 days a year, its not worth it.

We didn't get stuck today, spent loads of time driving around, no one up our lane got stuck, I cos I spent ages pulling them up the hill, even the postie and milkman in his transit.

You can't use snow chains cos the some of the roads are gritted, if they didn't waste money gritting the roads, and made everyone have snow chains, we'd be much better off. You wait till tonight, and all this melted slushy crap on the main road freezes. Better leaving the nice sticky snow on the road.

i usually jump on this band wagon. but today fair enough we had like 12" of snow where i am, and at one point i wanted to turn right up this road but had to turn left because the truck would just not go up at that angle.

its when we get about 1" and everyone panicks or makes excuses so that busses and trains dont run - thats when we should be embarrased, and where im from its because people who are driving these services have not lived in this country long enough to know that this isnt something new to us, it just doesnt happen that often
its just the way it goes. nothing we can do to change it.

i know i did my bit today, and i had fun while doing it. although my truck limped back, at the end of the day i can sort it (now repeat over and over until i feel better lol)

Most people at my work didn't turn up today. Could've walked it in less than an hour, the lazy buggers.

Incidentally, there is a Toyota Previa doing very slow donuts outside my window right now. Genius.

Bit bad when you're complaining about being embarrassed to be British and you can't even spell it correctly in your mother tongue.

I was doing a nice backend slide in a car park today. Practically no cars and a large swathe of almost unmolested snow. Who could resist that?

its quality isnt it. reminds me of when i had a bmw.

the trick is, if you feel like pressing the brake or taking your foot off the throttle, then dont, just ease off gently but not all the way and you will control it.

I tried getting in, but when the M25 ground to a halt and with the radio saying the traffic problems were getting worse I went back home.

However I had my company laptop with me so was able to work from here, out of 8 of us, only 1 made it in, and she got sent home lunchtime (about an hour after she got there) we all are able to work at home so we kept going.

Missed the 4x4 today, but I can confirm the ABS works
