they've convinced me. i'm not buying another 4x4 ever again. they are such clever, superior people.
it must be a great feeling knowing they're right about everything, and that we should all do what they say, nevermind personal freedoms.
if 4x4s were banned these to55ers would then move onto large, estate vehicles. then once they're banned it will be smaller family cars and so on until we're all transportless aqnd have to walk everywhere, likle they do. which is fine if you don't have a job or a trustfund. but for the rest of us living in the real world its not so simple.
btw, everyone who says "i got my surf/4x4 for this reason and that reason" stop f***ing justifying your choice of motor. you just add weight to what these pricks are saying.i swear, it was like that when i got here...

As Sancho says - at least we've got an argument now Normally wouldn't bother posting one like my last one (just starting fights...) but the first few pages here weren't exactly the height of enlightened opinion expression!!
The issues here need tackled - fud on either side doesn't help. Hybrid cars are a classic example - they're a complete waste of effort - the CO2 emissions in building a Prius are equivalent to 20000 miles on the clock when it's delivered. Similarly replacing old cars with new, etc.
Going to crawl back into my hole and watch the war continue from down there now!Andy

You forgot the monetary cost of recycling / disposing of the toxic materials used in high power / low weight batteries (lead, lithium, cadmium etc) - which given current battery technology will be pretty much useless within a couple of years. As the batteries make up a huge part of the cost of a hybrid, they'll be 'scrap' or used as a conventional car by then.
I'd suggest that hybrids are a reasonable first step, but they are very far from eco-friendly, and a normal small hatch is probably more eco-friendly over the full 'build - use - disposal' cycle.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Thing is I am quite a closet environmentalist (bear with me) it does bother me how much I pollute. Not because of global warming cos its pretty likely that thats a natural cycle and is a just the most recent right-on way of expressing it. What bothers me more is its obvious that burning anything does pollute to a certain extent whether it be smoking fags, tribespeople with wood burning fires in unventilated huts, chinese peasants melting curcuit boards to get traces of gold and also breathing in lovely lead fumes or indeed our beloved surfs, puntos, mopeds or whatever burning petrol or diesel
I do turn off lights I'm not using, buy green electricity etc. etc. cos I reckon if changing what you do doesnt adversely effect your life then why not. I dont know the lights not on in the other room, the leccy costs the same and running my surf on veg makes it more environmentally friendly than my old 50mpg Nissan hatchback and as/more importantly, dirt cheap to run - now thats the kind of environmental step I like taking!
What bothers me about most of these tw@tty groups is they take a single issue thats missing the point of what they say they are botherd about
If theyre that worried about the environment, lobby govt to get industry to use more sustainable resources
If theyre worried about safety encourage better or more regular driving qualifications or work against drink (or just feckin thick, six toed chav idiot) drivers
If theyre worried about congestion, target the parents driving their kids 2 mins down the road, offer a lift to your own work colleagues or whatever or worry more about the heavy goods traffic generated by 'just in time' supply of the supermarkets
from any point of view, 4x4's are not the main culprits on any of the issues they say their mission is to address.
Problem is, at the end of the day its a bunch of pratts who rather than sit back and think about what issue it is that they are genuinely bothered about and how would be the best way to utilise their time to genuinely make a difference they would prefer to assuage what twisted angry conscience they have by doing something active that makes them feel good about their petty little existence. Therefore they go out pasting their ineffective and misplaced pieces of no doubt non recycled paper on a range of cars that for all they know are driven by people running on veg/ people who take less flights abroad than they do every year or just people who actually buy less commodities than them every year. Without interviewing every driver they cant know the whole picture so even if they do feel they have an axe top grind how could they choose who deserves their moaning and who doesnt
Sanctimonious c0cks
If someone wants to drive a 4x4 its their choice. Fine, have the freedom to get your point across, I've got nothing against you telling me your view but dont attempt to ram (ill made) judgements down my throat without even knowing me. They are happy to have a Prius which as someone has already says takes huge amounts of energy in production etc but feels all fluffy as you plug it in to the (fossil fuel generated)_ electric outlet, but have issue with me driving a well-maintained 15 year old (and likely to go on for many many more years before having all possible parts reused) vehicle that can, if I choose to, run on a fuel more 'green' than their leccy for their Pious.
Its a cowardly waste of time which is a shame as there are plenty of decent causes that really can make a difference in a myriad of decent ways that need people to give their time up for them. Instead this lot p1ss their days up the wall making themselves feel better and littering our cars and no doubt our streets as the leaflets probably just get chucked onto the ground.
Idiots.
I may have accidentally slipped into rant mode.
Might go and lie down
