  • New Cylinder Head Problems

Help, please, I’ve replaced the cylinder head after it cracked, new timing belt, radiator etc, etc, my problem is that it is hard to start and sounds like a tractor, it sounds very rough indeed, when I fitted the timing belt I double checked the timing marks and I’m fairly sure that they are ok, but cant think what else it could be except diesel pump pipes incorrect but all seemed to line up without any force?? Any thoughts

Don't they move at the same time as the engine

Yes they follow the engine speed

was the head a new one or 2nd hand one? was the cam ever romoved? tappety is the shims you will need a guide to fit new shims that will get rid of it. when you did the timing and lined all marks up to you hand turn the engine over to make sure nothing was hitting?

Didn't check the oil pump but the oil is the same as i always use. it takes about 3 attempts to start, normally she fires up first time.

Head came from slugsie's truck it had only done about 20 miles from having a new head fitted, so the cam was fitted before, yes i turned the engine over a few times and met no resistance apart from compresion. all timing markes were lined up and the the engine turned by hand and they still lined up after that, the engine sounds very loud and tappety

well i have to stress,at your own risk, start it,make sure u have pressure, but at your own risk,if no pressure the more you run it the more damage u will do
