The newer double cabs achieve about 35ish mpg which is a fair chunk more then our surfs, but i cant help but doubt some of the build quality of newer cars. Everything feels like it has a best before date. That teamed up with a monster depreciation.

Im not interested in the 'plate' of a car. Style is what attracts me to a car... then google tells me if its worth buying the damn thing!

I would go nuts for a dodge ram, but sometimes i cant help but look at the bad points... pi$$ poor on fuel, would be worse with any kind of hike up in tyre size. very long, very wide. just awkward would be the best way to describe it!

I even had a look at prices on an 'artic truck' style conversion on a newer hilux but then the thing is so damn wide you cant use a parking bay even in an open car park!!
it's sad ive been lookin at bmw estates and merc estates recently,my only other thought is petrol surf with lpg?

well when youve sold the surf for a ford/mercedes/bmw crapness..........just remember this thread and remember the fun times you had in your surf, and now relax in your nice average car with its average looks and performance, and whilst your at it start wearing polyester, and mowing your grass regularly and dont forget trying to find your new bland car in a car park, that you can now get in, and dont forget to pay all your bills on time, but dont impulsively decide to go camping on top of a big hil cos you will have to walk most of the way now,and dont forget to eat sensibly ,but dont cruise down the local high street getting admiring looks from all and sundry.

just sell your surf if you have to but please dont tell me about it as it doesnt mean you just going to be surfless,it also means you are going mediocre, and mediocre is right up there with vd and family funerals

      rant over

You're not wrong here. Just after getting the ebay special, I stopped at B&Q, left the shop and tried to find the car. All I could remember was that it was green, P reg, had a tasteful spoiler, and the drivers door lock didn't work. I can across four, yes four that fitted this discription with the exception of the drivers door lock.
Now I've never had that problem with the Surf.

Oh for the record you can lock pretty most Escorts with an Escort key, not just your own!!!

            absolutely.
if you cant afford to run a surf, then im sure we are all sorry,but.......

to keep a surf mot'd taxed and insured just to sit there surely cant cost more than 20 quid a week,it may be an extravagance but what price do you put on it ??

the occasional weekend outing,a camping trip .........is it worth the sale of the surf, just get an old banger,if its just commuting you require

                            bwhahaha!

                            http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ighlight=shame

Why sell the Surf? We got our skateboard so we could KEEP the trucks.

We filled the Pug up for the first time since we got it today! I've used my 4Runner today for the first time in a week, and it felt HUGE and more fun than ever.

Linda's Surf is still on last weeks deisel, and we've used it a couple of times as the Pug is rubbish for putting dogs in or passengers.

Have the runaround to deliver Linda to the station everyday and for legging it around town, and the Surf for weekend fun or family trips is perfect.

Im completly with GWH an BDT on all this.

I can see where both people are coming from, It sounds such a horrible cliche but the Surf is for many a way of life. Random car A isnt!

What the guys got up to on the WWR trip must have been awesome, an look at the money involved in it! I dont doubt it cost a few quid in fuel but you try an have the same level of enjoyment from a holiday that cost that!

Hell, This place is probably to blame for a lot of peoples love of these trucks, The first time i registered i didn't have the "remember me" clicked so i could never see any pics.. i couldn't be bothered with this place. it wasnt untill i got my 2nd truck that i spotted it. As it was i spent a fortune on crap tyres an no name shocks on my 1st truck. Ive saved money, ive had great (an crap) ideas on what to do to my truck!

Its just a tough choice. If my Surf blew up right now i would be gutted!! I was a damn mess at a CV boot FFS! But i know i would move on, not to bland car A or B but to something that i would fall in love with again.

I dont envy anyone having to make the choice between any car/truck they love and something that is more of a 'needs must'

Its a sh!t thing to have to deal with, it really is.
