Sorry to draw attention away from the important business of abusing Matt, but I like what someone said a while back about a pop up. What about something that comes up after someone's logged in 10 times, just saying "you obviously like the forum, perhaps you could contribute a tenner towards its ongoing upkeep as it is voluntarily run". The only way to stop if coming up everytime you logged in would be to pay - like a lot of freeware.
Never was and never will be the point. FFS, why don't we just start telling people they can't use the internet unless they have a third nipple and their name is Scaramanga too?
This shite seems to be becoming endemic these days.
Back to business, what the fcuk are you talking about?

This whingey attitude that seems to be proliferating tech forum owners of late. Christ, nothing is ever free to run, and income is never guaranteed. The whole point of an online resource is for it to be an online resource, not some closed, unless requirements are met, resource. If they were ever bothered about cost, they shouldn't have started the forums in the first place. And no, this isn't a dig at Nigel or anyone else specifically, but rather all the admins who are coming out with this attitude of late. And coming out they truly are of late. It's like a damned plague.

matt i know nothing about hosting and servers and webspace, maybe you can enlighten us with your wisdom.why does it cost so much ?
And now the site is here and popular, why SHOULD Koi swallow the costs and not whinge? He could, I guess, just say 'f*ck you!' and pull the plug, but instead of that he's throwing the floor open for suggestions as to how to ease the financial burden.
I dont think he's looking to make a living from it either TBH...

To be totally honest, it would be better to see the plug pulled than it turn into a redneck inbred elitist club.
I only read what Koi had first written, as somehow couldn't get back ont the site, however I just joined (paid) a couple of days ago. Didn't even know how much I'd use the site, but from what I've learnt already, I'm more than happy to help! So I say good luck.

Why does anything cost money Mark? The host has staff, electric and equipment to pay for, as well as line leasing. They obviously have to charge for people to use it. Or was there a different point to that question?

Which is why i suggested a larger contribution option, Its unfair for both Koi to bare the brunt of costs but just as unfair to deny access etc.
Im not sure how much more ££ Koi is after to help run the site. But it seems one of the easiest options. Its still free. you can still access 100% of the site - just those who wish to put in a few quid more can do so an be represented with the silver star ....
