good point bout solanoids,im so used to just pullin up in a 7.5 tonne truck, not thinkin bout being in 4ft of water lol,and i much more experience of hydraulic winches!
aircraft cable is just a generic term used for wire rope. Wouldnt worry about the cable size, 9 mm is plenty. we use a maximum of 6mm for off the shelf cable to lift 1 ton. it is said by the manufacturer that this cable as been tested to 7 times its rating, but i wouldnt like to find out... just keep well away from it when winching, and inspect regular to check for inperfections, twisting etc!
i've got the 12,000lb winch and have nop had a prob to date, it's a good winch, although it's not a top brand it will do what you want it to do. just remember to fix it using high grade bolts. i've used it to pull out tree stumps and large concrete posts.
@nero i've fitted my winch with no problems as far as air flow, it all depends where you install the winch but i can't see anyone having it directly in front of the grill. just my opinion
I have a champion on the sj but the 8000lb one and it will lift it of the floor no probs i have been through rivers, puddles, and mud and the solenoids have been fine they are in a water proof box.As for air flow into the rad that aslo has been fine as you have a large gap between the winch drum and the solenoid box ontop
