Mark, I'm not sure how you got into this...you went for a permanent job, but you're now a contractor and loosing out big time. I think you either need to have a big argument with whoever employed you (and see if you can get what you applied for, AND recover some money), or quit and cut your losses. It all sounds a bit fu6ked up to me, to be honest. I'm starting a new IT job on monday, I hope its what it was advertised as! Never know, I might be on here in a few days asking for advice myself!
ROB just be Vigilante of some of the Job postings. I'm seeking legal Advice on Monday, I ve paid out nearly £400 to work for this Company its a joke
I will RESIGN my Position on Monday as i cant Survive on this Pittance.
I will also seek legal Advice as the JOB was Advertised as Permanent with a Salary of 18-20k a year. Everyday i work for them i am out of POCKET.
Its all a CON.

i was told you must have an agency if your contracting, its the law.
when i was going to switch jobs, the bloke who wanted me on his team was thinking about making up an agency so we could both earn some money out of it.
it goes like this
people you work for > agency > umbrella > you
if your a limited company it goes like this
people you work for > agency > you - then you have to sort your own tax out

That's complete and utter bunkum. Contracting work out is merely done so a company doesn't have the associated hassles of actually having to employ people. There is absolutely no stipulation as to whether a contractor is either self employed or from an agency, however. That decision would be made by the contracting company alone.

i dont quite understand...
since i started my job/ when i found out they were paying the agency £120 per day for me and i was seeing £80 at that time, there was nothing i could do.
the way i got the job was through a friend, i had no contact with this agency at all, but its the way its done i was told. i still hate how they take a slice of my earnings for doing absolutely nothing except have a money parking space for a couple of days.
