I've heard folk say that a fully synthetic will free up a lot of crud in the engine if its had only mineral before.

Fully synthetic tends to be thinner. Also the Surf wasn't designed to run on it.

means after 1-2 oil changes i get a cleaner engine free from carbon deposits and no more crud thereafter

I always use the same grade and type of oil that was available when vehicle made . Modern vehicle tolerances are tighter then 10 years or so , so the more modern oils will be to thin as already posted . I run Tam's '68 Herald and my Runner on good old 20/50 cheapo oil £3 per gallon. Good oil pressure and lasts well .

So Final word for all to follow:
                  1. Surfs 1st - 3rd gens are not designed for fully synth
                  2. max go for Semi synth
                  3. Best use mineral cheapo

                  Am I right?

I only use cheapo oil as my choice . You use wot you want , its your choice . I dont want to be resposible for your choice . As long as the oil meets SAE spec in user manual it is suitable for its purpuse .

Crud in the right place is no bad thing. But free it all and who knows where it'll end up before the next oil change.

Would you use mineral in a full synth engine???? NO!

So why use full synth in a mineral engine. SHEESH.

Cheap and change regular as per Toyo instructions.

That's not a balanced question, though. It can work one way, but not the other. A question like that needs two equally balanced alternatives or opposites.
