the red line we'll pretend is the screwhead groove under the 'thimble'

which you've removed to gain access,

    (from memory)

you take a small screwdriver and rotate the screw (clockwise) listening and feeling the tiny watch-winding type clicks, about six of them
which will move the screw from one blue point to another
    just as I've highlighted here

I know this is OK mines been done since this thread first appeared
    end of last year.

    • I'll readjust tomorrow then. I went from 11.00 - 7.00. Seemed ok but I dont want to overdo it, too much. Would the ECU cut in if it were over fuelling?

      • You'd probably be chucking out wads of black smoke if you were over fuelling. But yes, the 2LT-E should compensate to a degree.

        • On the ECU

I simply don't know, and leave that open for the experts
milling around here, and bumping into one another

But for myself, the only sign I've seen is a slight looseness of the wallet on refills, and the odd puff of black smoke on clogging it a bit

that aside, its all good performance wise

          • Smoke was evident in the lights of the cars I was leaving behind tonight. Showed what smoking them means!

            • to be fair

the smoke is always more apparent by following headlight,

              than it actually is,
              in daylight...

              • Its gone suspiciously and expensively quiet

                Hope it worked out allright

                • Done mine the same amount as you the day after Javars started this thread Richard, but I didn't feel or hear any clicks though!

                  • Thats strange

I read this comment during preceding pages, and thought it odd

how did you estimate the amount required to adjust screw?
and would you dare go further

                      By eye!

Dabbed a spot of white paint on the side of the screwhead and turned the screw. The paint marks seperated so I could see where the screw was before I turned it.

I could use another 'hit' of the screwdriver,
                        "just one more click mate"

"go on you know i'm good for it"

trouble is it might be the straw that broke the camel, I suspect

As you can tell from the (before) picture,

it had a tiny leak which was diesel, and had to be sorted for MOT last week
                        and that was £300

so I'm slightly sensitive to DIY improvements on Toyota technology after all, this wasn't thrown together by some plebs in Birmingham one Friday

300 quid to fix a diesel leak?

Did your tank fall off or something?

                          • Around here

We have one diesel specialist place

and they pretty much do everything from cars to trucks for all the hauliers

they have apparently seen a few Surf, with similar leaks,

if a repair can be made in-situ to renew the seal between Two halves of the pump, its cost is around a days labour plus parts,

to remove it and repair something else (if feasible) can be double that,
I'd be interested to see costs elsewhere in the country, not for myself now, but for future reff,

Also I had a Ten day window for retest and driving it and waiting all day for repair might not have saved me significantly

                            • Same here. Mine has been ok since making the dajustment. I'm gonna leave it as it is. It runs fine!

                              • I came across this old thread! I wonder how you all got on with the adjustment and how the MPG worked out?

How do I find it? I am not yet familiar with the 2.4 engine layout yet

                                Thanks!!!
