if the gen 2 v's the gen 3 surf is anything like toyotas attempt at making a new celica , the gen 2 will remain king ,for a long long time .

when toyota found plastic they spoiled alot about what they were.

Mine's Ice Blue, so as long as its that colour it doesn't really matter. Obviously the 3rd gen is the best, progress, progress, progress.
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

Yep. 2nd gen looks like a hilux station wagon.

3rd gen is a serious bit of kit BUT it does look too chelsea tractor for me.

2nd gen 3.0 with a little lift, and a locker or two, thats got to be the Daddy.

Most of the 3rd gen gadgets are easy enough to bolt on if you want em - remote central locking took me two hours and 50quid.

Strange how this debate can be so perfectly split.

I have done some analysis of the above and am shocked to observe that

1 owners of 2nd gens seem to prefer the 2nd gen
2 owners of 3rd gen's seem to prefer the 3rd gen.

                        Now that's odd isn't it

I have had both and the 3rd gen is in my opinion an improvement. It drives far better, has more power, is more refined, (mine even has a telly that pops out of the dash fitted from new) looks better (ducking for cover there) and has better off road abillity due to the locking diffs.

Anyway, who gives a toss? they are all surfs and as such they are all great fun which is the important thing here.

Do third gen's have locking diffs front and rear then?

If so are they electric lockers?

Just a locking centre diff, activated by a switch in the cab.

If you shift the little lever into L4L its all locked up.

                              It has L4 as well

Let me know where the switch is will you vince.

                                Side Steps

Do the 2nd gen side steps fit 3rd gen and how much alteration is needed to swap 2nd gen wrap round bull bars to 3rd gen, or does anyone want to swap.
Although, up to now, i thought 2nd gen was great, having now just bought 3rd gen which has been chipped, lifted, raised and wheels extended, plus 4 ins stainless exhaust, all included in price( see piccies in parts wanted forum)
it makes my 2nd gen, which actually is in great condition, look like an old banger.
I'm in love all over again.
