why i first tried to insure my surf direc line said we dont do imports you have to go to our sister company privalige and i got a good deal . i wonder if you problem was caused my direct line not putting it down as a surf but a hilux. its the same with tesco when i go on to their page to get a quote they dont do the surf only the hilux. if they take it on as a hiluk and then find out it is a surf they could refuse to pay out as thats not what they were insurng.thats why when i go for a quote the first thing i asked was do you do imports.the number that said no was amazing.
so much to do , so little money , so little time

The website I use for direct line lists the Surf and I had no problem at all????????? Plus they paid out fully without any question when my last 3rd Gen was written off. The engineer that examined my 3rd gen also complimented on the vehicle and the condition and agreed a full rebate.

Tesco also listed all models but where a bit more expensive.

Sorry to drag this back up, I had a Frumpteria (doesn't warrent a correct spelling) and I was with direct line, what a wonderfull company, did a quote, took my money and a month later sent me letter.
They wanted more money due to someting or other that had changed.
                    Probably fuel price or something!
                    So I went somewhere else.
When I got my smurf I tried Tesco and they were cheeeeep and happy to help.
Only after I had the Thatchman Alarm fitted for a cost of £300!

So, I suppose it depends on where you live as to the alarm/imobalizer etc.

And I have to agree with most of you, it depends on,
                    Where you live
                    How old you are
If you like tea or coffee
                    What colour your car is
And most important of all, if the person giving the quote had se* the night before!

It's all a con! and we all have to pay, one way or another
Back in the world of Surfdom

Insurance threads always make me laugh (especially after an evening in the pub followed by some rather nice Glenfiddich Special Reserve at home...).

Why? Because they're all the same and all different at the same time. Like someone said - insurance sompanies cherry pick who they insure. I can never resist laughing in the face of someone who lectures me on which insurance company to go with... I listen patiently then reply "yes, but you're a 26yr old girl driving a mini with full no claims, I'm a 34 yr old male driving a 4x4 with no no claims, what the F*** makes you think they'll be good for me???"

I say all the same because they are all companies that exist soley to earn money.
I say all different because they've all decided to target different audiences.

At the end of the day, the only thing all of us can do is ring around them all, get the best quote, weigh it up against how efficient friends have said they are and take a gamble. All insurance is a gamble, you're gambling on the odds that you won't have to make a claim and on the odds that if you do, they'll act in your favour.

I've had useless service off of the AA and NU to name but two, but am currently insured with Direct Line as a) they were cheaper and b) when I worked in fire and flood restoration they were more human to their clients than other insurers, so currently they're winning in my personal preference chart. No doubt if I have to claim off them, it'll all come down to the individual assigned my case and it'll either go bad or good, who knows, it's a gamble.

                      Just my Glenfiddich fueled opinion.

                      Smeg.
