tesco are underwritten by directline (or something like that!?)

i had same trouble with them, upping the quote after i'd accepted!... alway's thought a quote was a "quote", not a rough guess!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

Insurance seems to be a bit of a mine field, even getting a quote never mind trying to claim.Over the last couple of years on this forum I've seen the issue of who to insure with come up several times, what I've noticed is that there doesn't seem to be any level ground.Adrian Flux was mentioned as being a good catch, which I must admit that's who I insured the Surf with first 3 years ago,I saw their ad in a 4x4 mag commenting how they had a dedicated section of their company looking after off road vehiecles and imports.I hooked up with them but they insisted on me fitting a Thatcham approved immobiliser which I did at an axtra cost of £150.All was well untill my better half decided she wanted to have a stab at passing her test.I asked Adrian Flux to add her as a named driver on a provisional licence, but they declined to do it.So I had to look elsewhere,I had no luck untill I tried Tesco. They were only too happy to insure me and my missus, plus didn't insist on an imobiliser and were cheaper than just me with Adrian Flux. However, other members of this forum have been declined to be insured with Tesco.Seems that there's a lot of inconsistency in the world of insurance.

Remeber, QUOTES by law are binding.

Estimates however are a source of quote but any variations can then be charged acordingly!

If you have a quote, by law you can keep them to it!

        check it out.

My boss tells me this all the time when we price work :-)

the main problem is the random number generator they all use when working the quotes out. this ensures(no pun intended) that people change insurers every couple of years so the the marketing types can justify their existence saying they have ?% new customers this year....
i can remember when loyalty was more than a card... pah!
          it's in me shed, mate.

I'm confused as to how Direct line can suddenly decide they wont pay out because the Surf's an import, surely they know this cos it's a Surf, they're all imports (Arn't they?) And the old reliable 'puter must have told them this when you took the policy? Makes me feel better knowing i'm with A-plan,thanx for the reassurance Linda, hope i never need it!!!

It's UK insurance ltd, the mob who also underwrite the new kids on the block - Virgin Insurance.

I am waiting for all the comments about claims after mentioning Virgin insurance and kids in the same sentence

Have you got you Surf insured with Direct Line ??? I have !!!

I needed to make a claim (first claim in 20+ years), all I have had is real agro from them. Their engineer decided to make an issue out of the fact that my Surf (like yours) is an import. He would not give the bodyshop the go ahead. It has taken me hours on the phone (ranting & raving), speaking with different people trying to make some sense of the situation. At last tonight, after talking with a supervisor, they are now going to proceed with the repair.

If your policy is with them (Direct Line) contact them to make sure you are insured, and if you need to make a claim they will honour it - GET IT IN WRITING. They are likely to waste your time and money making excuses and not pay out. Let me know how you get on.

If you are not insured with them, then DON'T bother using them.

                Best of luck

                Vic.........

Well - I have a mixture here! I am the ripe old age of 35 with 8 years no claims(the max that Direct Line will allow) and just got my renewal of £360.
I have made one claim (two cars had a crash outside my house and one spun into mine - I was wolfing beefy monster munch on the sofa with my dog at the time.....) There was no hassle with arranging the repair and the £400 excess was waived. The only problem I really have is that I may have to pay for the courtesy car for 4 days as nobody seems able to decide on whose liability the accident was! So both gents will get a visit from the boys if I get a bill for the car!Either way I won't be parting with a penny and have made this abundantly clear to Direct Line and both of the drivers involved. I'll let you know if I get a bill and perhaps one of you legal eagles will help me out with some choice phrases! I do have plenty of my own but none of them suitable!

                  I'm with Direct line,

I wrote my 3rd Gen off last August (or had it written off for me by a HGV).
Within 2 weeks I had a cheque for £10,000 on my doorstep. I cannot praise them enough with their help (recovery truck, courtesy car, solicitor for me to deal with the claim) I pay £360 (29 year old, full no claims) a year for fully comp insurance and I cannot praise them enough!!!!!

Absolutely spot on for me and I'm staying with them !!

                  Andy

Mate Im With Them, Was Involved In A Crash Last Year, They Had The Surf Fixed Within 2 Weeks And Gave Me A Toyota Hilux Double Cab To Drive Around In For 2 Weeks, I Asked Them If They Would Approve Of Removal Of The Stupid Front Parking Meter, And To Fill The Fixing Hole , And They Also Agreed To Do That.............. So I Can Only Give Them 10 / 10 .....they Know Its An Import As It Was Declared As One When I Insured It ....... Which Is £400 Fully Comp With Approved Immobiliser ............

I have just renewed my insurance, was covered by prestige who were the most un-helpful people i have ever had the misfortune to speak with, they were fine with me till they had my money, they then no longer cared, it took 9 months to get an insurance cert from them and when it did arrive it had been mis-typed and hand written over the top making it invalid for getting tax.
I have just renewed with Footman james who were the cheapest by £50 and have been very quick in sending out all the info i need. They quoted me £307 fully comp with only £150 excess.
If it aint broke...........give it some more abuse!!!!!!!!
I gave it some abuse.................and it broke!!!!!!!
