It's either head towards Bath and avoid the main motorways, which is the shortest distance or up the main motorways which is meant to be quickest but 50 odd miles extra?

Yeah can meet you there for 11am. That'll give me a few hours to finish tinkering with my truck. I've only got a traditional paper map and a rough idea as to which way to go, so don't mind which way we head. The only motorway problems we may get is if we go up the M5 and the junction with the M6 can be a pain if caught at the wrong time.

think i might be using the toll road to speed things allong think i will be there about 8 ish. I would consider the trip a failure if i do not have a beer in hand by 8.45!!

If you go the 'direct' route (likely to be better round the midlands bit on a friday PM) I could meet you somewhere up the A49 (Craven Arms, Ludlow areas) around 5ish if you're there around then.
