Ian think Scotty may be interested in the crazy gang outing. His Surf sits higher than mine with a great set of MT's. So should cope well in the hostile conditions

Have the routes changed sine my last crazy drive??? Will my little un make it???

        Will I Make It

Smithy the only parts that cause trouble are the tight wooded section at the entry point but its easy to miss that out which goes for most sections similar to that ie...The Tunns Qaurry route which goes right through the trees it has been cut back at the danger tree at the end which used to catch the tail end of the LWB's.' Just the bottomless muddy end section left which caught me out once before We run the Glashan Burn in reverse which means climbing the steep hill you reach at the end on the usual direction run . We also run the section at Craig Murrail in reverse which adds two good hilly sections, we only do this when it has been dry for a few days or we cause to much damage which we have to repair . So I see no reason a competent driver could not do all parts. Clearance is the biggest asset. The downside is we do not avoid any scratchy or possibly damaging routes , so if you join the group you accept the possibility of ooooops.... I think a bit has fallen off but the fun is tremendous

There are plenty places to camp. And it is some of the most beautiful scenery you'll ever see.

I can't make the drives but have limited space for a tent or two in the garden! Room in the fridge for beer as well. A quick take away and a carry out and we're set!

basher, feel free to give me a shout if you are free one weekend for a blether and a coffee.

                yotasurf@fsmail.net

                do you have a surf?

i go up to drumclog quite regular, sometimes twice a month, so the next time i'm going i'll give you a shout, theres me, defender 90, and 2 discos, and sometimes a nissan D22 pick up.

Lochgilphead does sound good, and dave, that offer sounds good. Camping but with the benifits of a B&B, curry, cold beer and breaky in the morning.

dont get me wrong, you will be repaid well, with beer or wine, good crack and a bare patch on your grass as we might stay for the week.

basher, i am also a joiner, so i hope your user name has nothing to do with your standard of work

or are you like me and sharpen your axe when you are going to do finishings

cheers guys and take it easy

                  Basher And Forest Drives

Scotty you are a ruffian using an axe my chainsaw makes a much quicker job At this moment in time I have just come in from the garage , my gearbox had finally had enough of 5 years hard slog in the forest so had it out. Two new gears, a mainshaft and a selector slide in transfer box all done, the box is now back in what a lump the box is my good lady Marion was my helper and just all the fiddly bits to connect and were ready to roll I drive a 300 TDI Defender swb In saying that I am not in any way a Land rover fanatic but after owning two superb 2.8 SWB Isuzus I found the constant off roading and subsequent replacing of parts was a definate downside cost wise. The Landy parts are very cheap and I get loads of bits as they fall off the guys motors on the drives The big advantage of the 90 lies in its suspension setup the wee white beastie just loves the deep mud and ruts. I miss the smoothnes s of the Isuzu but the 90 is a great all rounder. We are waitng on delivery of a new Defender to replace the wifes tired Discovery cant part with the trusty 300

Hi lads, if I can secure some time off of work I'd love to come on this drive.

I have no offroad experience and I was wondering if I'd be up to the job.
My Surf has standard height clearance and I have a bag of shackles and nerves of steel.

My brother may also be up for it and he too has no off road knowledge.

If I'm considered too green for this drive I will understand.
                      Alan

Sounds like the perfect starter for you! I went to the drive in Jan with the same lack of experience also in a standard surf and had a ball. Stick to the easy route each day and the guide will keep you out of difficulties. Being in the forest there will be scratches to the car as you pass trees.

There's always a great atmosphere. Shame I can't make it this time but I may pop in one morning at the meeting spot to say hi. (Its only 3 miles from home!)

Im not bothered about scratchs as I would like to modify in the future

I have no experiance other than the odd puddle on th A80 will I be a hinderance or is there experianced lads that can put me straight on things

Also could I bring my 12yr old son as a passenger?

No experience needed. There's a guide on each route that will keep you straight and help pull/winch anyone out who needs it. Some sections can be avoided and may give you the chance to watch experienced drivers and the techniques they use. There's a history of surfs on the drives and the guides know how capable they are. Passengers no problems, the lad will love it!
