  • What makes a good off road centre?

    Hi y'all,

I had my first off road experience when I popped the new truck down to my dads farm, and thrashed it round a field. It all got a bit lairy when I went over a rhythm of humps at the perfect speed to get the whole thing kangarooing clear off the ground! Thank god nothing fell off, I wasn't expecting that sort of "shake down".

but it got me to thinking, what makes a good off road centre? I've not yet been to one, but if its feasible, I might convince the old man to start up on on the farm. he's got 100 acres, including a woodland across a valley, and some of the few short hills in cheshire. would there be any business competition in the area, and what would make it a good venue?

    sorry for the essay,

    cheers,

    Martin

Steep hills (with good run up/off areas)
        Bumpy stuff

                Okaley dokaley,

we've got hilly woodland, some monster hills, plenty of flat ground, big humps/boulders, but currently very little mud.

the other problem being we have no bacon butty facilities!

Think the best thing would be for me to visit some other centres, and perhaps for a few guys come and scope the place out for potential.

                cheers,

Sounds like a good excuse for a BIG meet and greet for the Forum!

An ideal opotunity to help create our perfect play ground too perhaps, after all we should do something to earn our future discount, shouldn't we ?

I've only been out once so I don't have an enormous amount of experience to speak from, but when I did go I went to langdale quest in North Yorkshire and I particularly enjoyed it cos there was just mile after mile of off road terrain (30 miles actuall). Instructors were on hand for more difficult sections of the course, which was good for me since it was a first time - also felt safe cos there was someone in radio contact to pull you out of the mud if you got stuck.

I'm planning to go back on December 11th.

Combination of hills with run ups/offs
                          Flat sections, woodland trails
various sections to test novice and expert alike with "safe" ways out of each area. Dont wanna get stuck and have no way of getting out
                          Testing areas with mud, water

Its got to be good for all comers...so that all levels are tested.

There used to be a pit down in cheshire that used to do4x4 days but think it closed down....sometime since I saw it in the mags.
