ill leave it there as it works and is extra. if it ever dies i will most likely just wire it to a switch so when the temps up ill pop it on and leave it on till the journey is over.
wonder if it will be worthwhile doing that but with a bigger fan... ? hmm...?well, that was a bad idea!

the 3 liter rad has no inbuilt atf cooler and hence flows better.
Vince mentioned this on one of his builds.Eat.Sleep.Surf.Repeat.

Erm not quite.
Manual gearbox, diesel Surfs (2.4/3.0) have no AFT cooler in the bottom of the radiator and 3.0 rads are taller than the 2.4's i.e. more capacity.

Most think that having an additional oil cooler for the auto box is a good idea.
Ideally this would have an Oil Stat in line.I think Red Baron did a write up on this?
Do the viscous fan mod.
Check the coolant.
Check the coolant for combustion gases.
Make sure the radiator can flow air.
I have on mine flushed and fitted a new rad.
Checked for combustion gases.
Done the viscous fan mod.
Changed all the 19 mm coolant hoses.
Fitted new stat.
Removed the bonnet sealing strips and pulled off the last of the bonnet insulation.
And when I pull my finger out fit the ATF cooler and temperature gauge.
Some have raised the rear of the bonnet so it sits proud of the shut lines.Eat.Sleep.Surf.Repeat.

I think most find that simply fitting an additional in line tranny cooler is sufficient and you can fit it before or after the rad , it makes no difference to the heat balance. Most seem to prefer before.
In the interests of pedantry, the viscous fan mod referred to is not in fact a mod, its more a bit of maintenance to ensure it works at full capacity as supplied from factory.Last edited by Bogus; 9 April 2012, 16:00.Сви можемо

Well I am glad pedantry and not common sense have won.Eat.Sleep.Surf.Repeat.

Anyway.
Here is the link for ensuring the viscous fan is working as it should?
