  • Cooling the 2.4

As it was bleedin' hot today and with the Summer on its way I was wandering what you lot have tried or fitted or modded to keep the 2.4 engine cool?

    Done the bleed valve mod.

    Done the viscous fan.

    New rad fitted.

Obviously junking the atf cooler in the bottom of the rad.

But what else has been experimented with?

I think you've covered it all, if it overheats after that then you have other issues.
If its not broke don't fix it.

              @Vince

You mean grills a la the jaguar style you recently used on Lexurf ? and facing backwards to flow air out or forwards to push air in.

Or as it is just a slow 2.4 the hot air will just convect out and it won't achieve laminar flow....

I read (somewhere) that the top of engines mainly have a negative pressure, I assume by the flow of air from the front of the vehicle to the underneath...
Given this, rear facing grilles would work fine, and stop the road crud from getting sucked in all over your engine...
And they would be sucking in, I believe, either way round, unless you were stationary... but I might be wrong, I was once before...

I think with the amount of air that my viscous fan now moves any bonnet grilles would have the air blown out of them.

I have taken the rubber sealing strips off the sides of the bonnet and in the rain I can see little vortexes forming in the rain drops ,this I believe is from the air moved by the viscous fan,but as always I am open to suggestions .

I think his misspelling is a failed attempt at "humour"

Nope bonnet vents, especially the old Cosworth style, suck engine heat out as air flows over the top of them at speed, similar to the Bernoulli principle.

I've added Redline Water Wetter to my coolant, it raises the boiling point, lowers the surface tension, and increases the efficiency with which it can take on and shed heat as a result. Keeps the hotspots in the head cooler, and gets more heat out as it passes through the rad.

There's other similar products available, if Redline is not available in the UK.

Ah okay, so it's still neg pressure in engine compartment compared to air flow outside the vehicle?
