yeah there is a viscous behind the rad as normal and there is an electric one infront of the rad too. didnt notice it was there till yesterdays puddles and checking the rad for mud, im guessing it not normally there then?
Tis' normal on the 2nd gen, A few take the electric fan off but i left mine on, It never came on while using the truck but, the sensor packed up and, it ran all the time until i replaced the sensor. Never had it running after that (it never got hot enough)
I'M ALWAYS IN THE SH'T, IT'S ONLY THE DEPTH THAT VARIES!!!!!!!!
ill leave it there as it works and is extra. if it ever dies i will most likely just wire it to a switch so when the temps up ill pop it on and leave it on till the journey is over.
wonder if it will be worthwhile doing that but with a bigger fan... ? hmm...?
Best left as it was intended, just keep the cooling system clean and clear of crap and you should be OK. The transmission cooler seems to be the normal mod for cooling the main radiator.

as in remove the transmission cooler pipes and block them then put a normal no transmission cooling rad in?
I could say its been a long night or I have been drinking but I think I will just get my coat.........
OK thinking head back on.
Most think that having an additional oil cooler for the auto box is a good idea.
Ideally this would have an Oil Stat in line.I think Red Baron did a write up on this?
Do the viscous fan mod.
Check the coolant.
Check the coolant for combustion gases.
Make sure the radiator can flow air.
I have on mine flushed and fitted a new rad.
Checked for combustion gases.
Done the viscous fan mod.
Changed all the 19 mm coolant hoses.
Fitted new stat.
Removed the bonnet sealing strips and pulled off the last of the bonnet insulation.
And when I pull my finger out fit the ATF cooler and temperature gauge.
Some have raised the rear of the bonnet so it sits proud of the shut lines.

Reason: typo
so you fit in a rad from a 3.0 then fit a remote oil cooler?
Not quite, you fit a suitably sized transmission cooler and a rad from a manual. That separates transmission cooling from the rad completely and gives you a bigger rad.
I think most find that simply fitting an additional in line tranny cooler is sufficient and you can fit it before or after the rad , it makes no difference to the heat balance. Most seem to prefer before.
In the interests of pedantry, the viscous fan mod referred to is not in fact a mod, its more a bit of maintenance to ensure it works at full capacity as supplied from factory.

Well I am glad pedantry and not common sense have won.
