Help with 3rd Gen Lift...

That's good news, I'll wait till he comes back to me then and if not I'll emither him. Can I ask what lift you had done and what kit you used please? I hope he's not expecting much more than a labourer from me - I can pass spanners but they'll probably be the wrong way round!

It was a few years back when i had a 2.4, we did a body lift. Did it in about 1 hour, 3 of us. Mind, I couldnt get a spanner in, He and his brother (Kerrsurf) did all the work, I just took pics.
Theyre good friend now and I go offroading with them as often as I can.
Its not so much a service he provides, its more like he'll help you out if you need it.
Your question about his experience. Hes built a few offroaders from scratch, owned and lifted 2/ 3 Surfs, 1 x V8 Rangie, built an offroad buggy, now hes on with a Jimny.

Although I haven't spoken to them yet. Any chance you could shed a bit of light on the best body & sus lift to make a visible difference, fit 35s and it not cost a fortune needing loads of other mods. If all of the above is not possible, feel free to say so. I would rather spend a few more quid than be thinking " Bl**dy 'ell, I can;t really see a difference!"

I guess Yoshie will also be able to give me some pointers here too... Are you there Yoshie!!?

Would you be happy to recommend/point me in the right direction for the kit I need so that Yoshie can fit it, please? Or Maybe Yoshie has a preferred kit to use. Your input is very much appreciated and I would be happy for you to make any suggestions. Maybe you could do the bits and Yoshie fit??

Hi mate, have a think about what route you are going.
If you have your heart set on 35s understand the trade off, they will kill your gearing, and mpg. You will have a gutless plug that does 15mpg. You can get round this by fitting after market ring and pinion gears, but these are around £500.
If the truck is going offroad go no bigger than 33s. The 3.0ltr handels the 33s no bother.


Anyway as for lift if you want a body lift 1" or 2" no problem just sort a dry day run up here and I will fit it. {Dont show up with lift blocks over 2" I wont fit them} If you buy the spacer type suspension lift we can fit that at the same time. Or if you go full replacement springs and shocks that will also be fine.

I am going to keep this in the main forum for now as I think it may help other numpty spannerphobes like me.

So, the 35's are out of my head and we are on the 33's.

Just to let you know, the main use for my truck will be to launch, recover and tow my boat. I want the lifts to get me further from the water and equally for the look it will give. I may do a bit of offroad, but certainly not my main reason. I will only do about 3,000 miles a year in it.

So, with this in mind...

1) I will go for a 2" body lift - assume I will get the stuff from the catalogue.
2) Should I also go for a 2" Sus lift? Is this the most effective with the above in mind? I was thinking of going for the springs and shocks version, but hadn't heard of the spacer type until you mentioned it. If the springs and shocks is better and yoiu are happy to fit I will do that.

1. I don't think they will do body lift for a surf try stien or 4crawler, failing that I could probably get them made.

2. It's up to you spacer option will probably cost you half, however I heard Barry at roughtrax was doing full suspension lift for 3rd gens for around £400

I would use spacers on my road truck to fit bigger tyres. On my off road one I fitted springs and shocks, both work it's really what you want from the finished truck.

3.I would say es3000 or es9000 or Barrys desert fox. I have always fitted 9000 or Ranchos but all those trucks were running LC springs that are very stiff and used offroad a fair bit.

4.That cat is not difflock's. In fact theres fec all worth having from the difflock site.

5. Weekend or maybe a Friday Saturday.

I can get quality grade ally bar. Might even be able to get big enough Dia to do spacers.
