If you want a bit more comfort go for the ES3000's They're not quite as stiff but plenty of people still rate them

That would tend to be a good incentive to replace them. I'll
go with the ES9000's. Very rare the wife and kids are allowed
    in the Surf, , so a harder ride isn't a problem. I'm a firm
believer in 'tis better to go overkill than underkill. Worthwhile
doing the fronts as well, whilst I am at it? Thanks once again.

Yeah, while you're changing the shock type I think it would be advisable to do both ends

Cheers for the advice Roger. Will let you know the outcome once
it's done. The psychopathic grin I'll be wearing will probably be a
bit of a giveaway, as well. Thanks.

Just in the process of searching the forum for info on how to
replace the springs and shocks, came across the link to:

          http://www.coilsprings.co.uk/offroad.htm

Have to say, I love their descriptions of what uses they can
          create springs for.

A bit of a belated update. The Milner's shocks went on
last week, as did the ES9000's, (which are now flourescent
yellow instead of white), and the rear sway bar was removed
at the same time. Cartloads firmer and less body movement.

Have whipped the front sway bar off today, so will be posting
an update later as to either the improved articulation, or the
wife will be posting my obituary. Big thanks to Tony
for the excellent service, and to everyone else for their advice.
Also, cheers Roger for convincing me to go with the psychopathic
            suspension route.

Just as a minor query, I thought it was generally only the rear
factory shocks which were hard/soft adjustable? When I whipped
mine off, both front and back were the adjustable type. Or is it
just me that had a quirky one?

            Thanks once again to everyone.

No, it's front & back adjustables as standard.

Cheers. It was just one of those irrelevant things that starts one
                wondering.

So how does it handle MattF - you've done exactly what I am considering doing to mine...

Not tried it since removing the front yet, but will update on that
bit over the next few days.

As to the rear being removed, at worst I would say the removal
is unnoticeable, at best I would say the body doesn't seem to
wallow into a dip now, and I'm well impressed, taking into account
that the shocks and springs have also had an effect on handling.
Tried it yesterday on a country lane that has a lot of rapid camber
changes and dips for offshoot roads, at a decent speed, and I can
definitely say that the handling now is far better than before. Will
be giving her the same type of test with the front bar removed. As
to the offroad difference, Roger has already covered that bit rather
                    well, earlier in this thread.

Made it myself. It's realy just a thick walled 2" i/d tube bent and welded to the chasis via some brackets made with box section.

Well, verdict upto just. Normal road use, fine at normal speed.
If you like using the accelerator and aiming at corners, it's like
being slapped around by an angry woman. However,
the tyres cling to the ground like a young woman to a rich man.
It's awfully addictive. I definitely would mention that you need
to adapt your driving style slightly. It's no worse than a Surf when
they have weak springs and shocks, and the backend does have
a tendency to be a bit more skittish, but I would definitely say go
for it, if you've been considering it. Just make sure your
                              suspension is decent first.

Richard, drudging through the archives last night, noted that you
have also replaced your torsion bars. Where did you get them
from? Had a look on the Roughtrax site, and they only seem to list
                              upgraded length/height ones.

                              Cheers.

It was the uprated Torsion Bars with the 2" lift kit from roughtrax but i found them a right sod to fit.I don't think i will bother with them again tho
