  • I'll start this off then.....

I've made a few changes since getting the 4runner. Mostly in the fuel system etc by way of a Zavoli LPG fuel injection system and 2 x 50 litre LPG in place of the old winch down spare wheel carrier underneath the rear of the truck. - unfortunately all this added extra weight to an already soggy r.send so on Tony's advice I went for :-
    2" lift springs
    4 x Pro-comp ES 900 Nitrogen Gas Shocks
Made one hell of a difference, rear end doesn't sag (even under load) handles brilliantly. V.V.PLEASED!!!!
Ranger 5 spoke Alloys with BFG A/T's 31x10.50x15
    2 x Rinder Spots 100w
    2 x Rinder Fogs 100w
4 x marker lights (sad I know - I guess it's that little bit of trucker in me still)
    4 x white strobes
    2 x alternating rear reds
(the above are for work and rallying etc - see my profile for explanation)

    Sony Single CD Head unit
    Alpine T300 amp
    Alpine F250 amp
Jensen sub (it was a freebie)
I left all the original Toyota speakers in but added better wiring and for a stock amplified system is bl**dy loud
EGR window deflctors all 'round and an EGR sunvisor deflector too.
    Bonnet guard (courtesy of Sumo!!)
    Tow point on front
    Bash plate/sump guard
    LPG bash plate
    Air Pipe Mod
    Iridium plugs

Next step is to change the brake lines for braided hoses,

Next step is to change the brake lines for braided hoses, put wheel spacers on to push the width out a bit and change the tyres for some BFG A/T's (as big as I can get on stock alloys), weld a towing/pulling point on the front with a shackle attached, bonnet guard (courtesy of Sumo!!)
Guess I'll post some things too.

I hevn't made many changes to mine apart from the following.

    1. Arrigoni and De Angelis Roof rails(fitted from above with Rivet nuts and bolts). Thule Roof Bars and a Thule Standard roofrack are fitted to these.
    2. Replaced the Stereo first with a JVC Single din unit then pulled this out and replaced with a Sony WX C570R double Din CD/Tape/Radio unit.
    3. Ring Microline Driving lights fitted below the bumper in the lower cutout and covered with custom grill material - good pattern and quite long range even with 55watt bulbs.
    4. Ring projector fogs to be fitted in the valance under the bumper indicators. Got to cut the valance, make up some brackets, fit them and then make grill inserts to make it look pretty.
    5. Load area cover from www.carseatcovers.co.uk covers sides, seats, floor.
    6. GPS system fitted to car. System is TomTom Navigator running on my IPAQ 3850 and fitted using a Arkon swan neck mount. I have an external antenna to fit, just running on the TomTom one put on the dash at this time.
    7. Replaced the original tyres with Bridgestone Dueller HT 265/70/15 road biased tyres as this is an every day car for work.
    8. Will replace the shocks and rear springs eventually but as the rear isn't sagging got better things to do at the moment.

    Cheers

Sounds like some nice work has been going on. Good descriptions too. How about some nice pics so we can see what you have done. All this activity makes me feel like a real slouch

        Phil.

I'll be posting some pics and writeups when I get round to it, however I've been DIYing (on the house) for most of the summer and I better get it finished first or I'll be ending up on DIY SOS.

        Cheers

Have you got the rad fitted yet, does it look like it'll do the job, be interested to see it.

Completed the 300mile plus trip to see my folks - two **** stops and 60 plus all the way. Well, as usual the thermostat just stays dead in the centre of the dial - no change there then. The top of the rad was still hot to the touch, but not excessively so, and after the vehicle had been sitting awhile I checked the coolant level and it looked just about the same.

I went via a public weigh bridge and the truck came in at 2630 kg all in as I was carrying all my recovery gear, tyre repair tools and fridge etc, a 100 kg plus over the recomended GVM. I also had the large roofrack, rooftent, two Michelin XZLs and two (1.25m) aluminium sand plates strapped to the roof - therefore providing the aerodynamics of a blunt brick ****house - so all in all I think it passed the test with flying colours. Without all my expedition kit I'm sure it'd cruise at 70-80, all day, no problem.

The only minor "problem" is the noise - as the fan's running all the time the 3.0 diesel now sounds like a 4.0 petrol! It also didn't help that my spare wheel was in use (military "studded" XZL for icy conditions) and that tends to make a real "crunching" noise as it runs.

I must admit that my once lovely 4Runner is now starting to look a bit like the ******* child of LandRover and Toyota (but without the oil leaks!) but it's my baby and I love it! The wife in Zim has got my digi camera so you'll have to wait for pics until I can annoy my nephews enough and by the way - if anyone wants to buy a perfectly good viscous coupling unit...
