  • Fastest / cheapest performance boost!!

This is the fastest, cheapest and most effective, for its time/dollars input, to get a bit more go out of the 2.4LT

Mine is a 1990 SSR Ltd,
Stand on the Left side beside the airfilter, probably eaiser to open the bonnet first!!

Closest to you is a rubber elbow which connects the air filter housing to the airbox connecting tube.

Release the clamps on this elbow and remove the tube that goes to the airbox.
    Done !!

You WILL notice a difference in get up and go!!!!!

    Further refinements
    1. Place a short length (about 4" long) of perforated drain tube in the elbow facing forward, this helps to reduce the induction noise from the air filter
    2. If you are worried about water etc getting in then turn the elbow over to face the back, this does make for a bit more noise.

My next step will be to face the elbow upwards and fit it with a rubber donut seal to mate with the underside of the bonnet.
Chop a hole in the bonnet and fit a low profile air scoop to blow cool air in, then fit two vents at the rear of the bonnet to help with hot air flow out of the engine bay which in turn allows more air through the radiator.

      O.k fair question....
It does not STOP water getting in....but it severely reduces the chance of this happening
You would have to have water up to your fuel filter before it goes down the air intake and at this point I would suggest that there may be other pressing worries to concern me before sucking water.
The only reason that I have it facing forward for normal road driving is the drone of induction noise is mind-boggling

Did this on mine first part of the year, between 2-3000 rpm the induction noise is at its worst. It did seem to pull better after doing this mod. On the motorway above 3000rpm it wasn't to bad.
After replacing my head the induction noise was worse up to and over 3000rpm. I reconnected it to standard form, surprisingly it pulls better now in standard since doing the head but better disconnected before the head went maybe the head was gone long time ago. Must admit just turned the elbow up slightly towards the bulk head, didn't fit any other pipe etc.
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

its befor the air filter if you take a look at the air cleaner canister it has an in and an out . the in is from behind the front ns head lamp and if you follow it up it goes to a small rubber elbow and that it what to rotate 180 degs it allows the engine to pull air through the filter better as it is not hindered by sucking from around the lamp .

the only problem with this is that it sounds a bit boyracerish and can get a bit anoying but then again it sounds cool as well.
so much to do , so little money , so little time

I reckon I am thick.... but do you mean the elbow from the airbox to its inlet pipe ?

Alternativley a photo - should have asked Koi today at the pit !!

Looking at the aircleaner it has the pipe coming out of the top that goes to the Turbocharger
The other one exits the big black can through a rubber 90 degree elbow
Forward of this elbow is a black plastic tube about a foot long that goes to the airbox behind the Left headlight
Take this tube and distance test it
                    Job done!!!

Is that the same as the Drop Test that we telephone engineers used to do on faulty phone equipment - i.e. take it to the top of the telephone exchange and drop it into the car park.

Distance test = throw it as far as it will go!!

                      Cheers

                        Well, you can't say I didn't try !!

Took said bit off and ran her around for a few days. No discernable difference - apart from the fact that when she's cold she moves even slower than normal and all that bl00dy induction noise !!!

I'll be putting it back together this weekend

Cant you just fit a K&N airfilter ??. dont risk any damage that way, also can you fit a dump valve to the turbo on the 2.4td
i know you can get dump valves for desiels.
