          Good find....

Perhaps you can clear something up for me, if the torque converter is bolted to the flex plate, and the gearbox to the engine, how can that dimension be wrong?

          I've always wondered about that....

The measurement between a correctly and incorrectly seated torque converter is roughly 25mm.
There's two sets of splines, the outer set for the fluid pump, the inner set for the input shaft.

Sometimes it's just the input shaft splines that engage when refitting the torque converter so it 'feels' like it's seated correctly. If you pull the T/C toward you slightly, turn it a couple of degrees and push it back in, it suddenly 'clunks' in another inch or so.
It saves time if you measure the the distance as in the diagram above to ensure it's seated correctly to avoid damaging the torque converter's internals as the bellhousing bolts are tightened.

Thanks for the info and pic, makes sense as a time saving check before fitting.

Well can you believe my luck gearbox is in and working but I now have a oil leak and can see where it's from but what's not the best bit when the turbo kicks in it pulls like a train just the turbo screams its head off I'm sure it's a gasket or pipe but not totally sure
