  • Diff oil capacity on gen 3.

Hi all, just in process of changing diff oils.

Swapped rear mucky nasty stuff and topped up with 1.6ltr of fresh 80-90 gear oil. This makes the level about 5mm below filler.

Can anyone provide me with capacity for centre and front diffs?

Is the same oil used for centre diff or a different grade?

Is the front diff easy to get to when both bash plates are removed.

Finally got rear shocks changed, had to take it to garage, he wasn't a happy bunny.......2 hours to get the top nuts off. Got the Rancho's fitted now, ride still feels hard. I can push the Rancho shocks in quite easy by hand but extending them is very hard. Is this how it should work. The shocks that came off where very hard to compress but extended on their own.

    Many thanks.

Hi, regards diff oil capacities, got differing information.

    From roughtrax:
Transfer Box SAE 75W/90 1.4 Litres Drain & Refill
Front Differential (Standard) Hypoid Gear 80W/90 2.8 Litres
(L.S.D) Castrol Hypoy 90 LS Oil 2.8 Litres
Rear Differential (Standard) Standard Gear 80W/90 2.8 Litres Drain & Refill
(L.S.D) Castrol Hypoy 90 LS Oil 2.8 Litres Drain & Refill

From sticky on here, if it applies to KZN185:
    Standard rear diffs GL5, SAE 90 for above 18 deg C or 80W or 80W-90 for below 18 deg C. 2.2 Liters

I only managed to get 1.6ltr in mine.......

Has anyone got a link to a Toyo workshop manual?

    Many thanks

If your needing any lsd oil for your rear I have a 5l tub of millers you can have for £10 which I never used. You need to use a special lsd oil for the rear.
