Anyone made something to protect the engine?

After a trip round the plains I looked at the engine and as usual it was coated in mud. There were only 3 puddles all day.

So, have any of you made something to stop the ridiculous amount of slop coating everything?

I presume it would have to be fairly carefully made too as cooling is fairly important.

Does having half the rubber flaps missing in the front wheel arches add to the problem?

Would it also be possible to at least make an alternator guard? My idea was for a small panel bent round so it shields the under side then something above it on the bonnet to stop any mud from the top from getting to a position to drop on to it.

How do Ed,I dont do offroading myself(am I a closet shiny ?),but I dont think realistically you could fabricate anything that would keep out the slop,whilst still allowing the engine to breath properly,the engine needs copious amounts of air when working hard,and anything you could make may not only restrict the air flow,it may also hold the slop in when it needs to be let out.The only stuff Toyota fit is a sump guard and those side curtains behind the wheels.
We all agree how good these vehicles are,so in my opinion if Toyota dont fit it you dont need it.This really only applies to normal road useage, so maybe a snorkel and possibly an electric "push"fan mounted on the front of the radiator might be of use if you offroad.
If you wanted to keep it all out you would have to buy one of those giant sized novelty condoms,but if you want to look like a dick,drive a Landy.
This is only my humble opinion,I am sure an expert will be along shortly to put me in my place,just enjoy the truck and wash it off when you get home,unless you are affected by the hosepipe ban.

If you want to off road a lot , you are better off spraying alternator before going and servicing at less mileage ...... I do jet wash the diesel engine

It was remarkable how we had all driven virtually the same route, but there was a "Si Tate Shiny Club" clean gen 3 leading us!

Mine was regularly steam cleaned following a trip round the plains without any problems
