    Ahh all done today

took it slow and did take from 10 till 3pm but no problems except the rain.

I cut the original bearing enough to get a few balls out and then the whole cage as you suggested Tony. Then with the shaft off the bearing housing I could cut through the remains of the central bearing till it came thin enough to tap off too.

Scaffold bar was the best technique and required little effort to tap in the bearing and collar. No problems.

Feels nice and tight compared to the other side but I could see no damage to the original bearing Koyo? is that the original? I think it has been replaced before as there was silicone in the bearing retainer to axle joint with the rubber seal.

I conclude that this corner of the truck has had impact before and the axle was heated up for repair to brakes or the replacment of the bearing which caused the shaft to weaken.

I hate the guy that had it before me. Total scumbag

Anyway anyone with questions feel free to ask. I have photos and will load them on the web soon for others. I know I'm not the first by a long shot to do this repair but could be handy for others.

Thanks Tony and other posters. I'm back in action. Tomorrow a little panel beating to the rear quarter and top up brakes and bleed. Done.
Smack it with a 16lb Hammer and it will come off!
