  • Auto transmission flush

    Hmmm,
Thought i would flush the auto trans box and refill with fresh dextron 2.
No big deal i thought, two buckets and one filled up with fresh to be sucked in by the tranny pump the other for the waste!

Except what ever i do It wont suck up the fresh fluid!!

I hope its not the sign of a knackered pump, It dumped about 5 liters out of the sump easily enough, which i have now replaced with fresh through the filler tube!

I do have a transmission cooler fitted and i was trying to suck through the cooler to fill. Surely that cant make a difference the pump seems to work ok when the system is sealed as normal! Or does someone know different?

Any suggestions welcome as I may end up going to a transmission specialist to be relieved of many, many pounds!

Glad I just dropped the pan then when I did mine then. I almost went down the same route as you, expecting it to suck it up. Haven't a clue why yours isn't tho, sorry

        Thanks Rob

I have heard a lot of different opinions on this method, a good number of people have done it ok! some like me have had problems.

I am guessing that once the sealed circuit of fluid is broken the suction is decreased and trying to suck through the rad cooler and a 35row tranny cooler is too much for the poor old girl!

I might try to bypass the coolers and just use the metal pipes in and out of the autobox

I might just leave it alone!!

From reading the link in Rob's link it would apear that there is no return suction to the box after the cooler. It also mentions that doing this means that some of the fluid is being recirculated within the box and so is just being diluted.

It is worth reading the linky in Rob's link as the guy has done some research as well as tuned his trannsmision and upgraded his torque converter. (there used to be a place called ATP which tuned auto boxes, does anyone know if they still exist?
