Fair enough. But you also say the engine is spot on mechanically, is correctly plumbed, wired and timed. Also all relevant sensors are fine. If this is taken at face value, you don't have many options left.

Does it start and run good for a few seconds every time you start it?

        Here, have a generalisation:

If the ECU has no fault codes stored, then the engine is doing what the ECU is telling it to do.

If the engine isn't doing what you want it to do don't assume the engine is to blame...

new tps has solved the issue, the previous new tps was a cheaper brand, get what you pay for i guess, runs like a dream now

Glad you're all sorted and that you didn't follow my advice! Thought you'd eliminated the TPS though! Fingers crossed for a winter of trouble free Surfing for you. Don't forget to post us some pictures!

You should be able to adjust the throttle cable on the throttle body to bring the idle up a bit.It may be the right way of doing it or the wrong way but thats how i adjusted mine a while back
I know an ol thread but if you are looking at this storm is bang on the money with his theory of 180 as I just did timing belt and kids turned fuel pulley 180 and I never noticed, put all together and knocked and ran rough,
                NO MORE MR NICE GUY!

update: surf runs great, still have an issue with the cold starts, -20* starts very smooth no caughing or spitting, +25* no problem, anything in between runs rough,i have been reading for months and playing with the surf in order to locate the issue, i have 2 conclusions

                  1) while 10.5 vots at plugs runs smooth, when 6.5 volts runs rough, thought i could do a superglow system, is there a way to reverse the solenoids so the 10.5 volts would be secondary while the engine runs?

                  2) injection pump timing need to be advanced slightly, keep in mind my idle is at 500 rpm kinda low, figure this might work due to what i have read?

anyways i could use some help here, there must be some info on this somewhere?

                    Try checking the TPS.
