2" Suspension lift kit help

    I picked up some compressors with a hook type system that clamps either side of the spring both top and bottom i.e. four hooks per compressor (would show pics but I can't get the computer to accept my camera at the mo), I really don't like the sound of these things coming off under compression, I have visions of the spring taking my head off.
    I also need to try and find somewhere flat to do it as I there is no level ground here, also it's chuffin cold at the mo.
    Keep us posted on how you get on with the lift

      Well I've decided to call in a mate who has more mechanical experience than me, although this is not really a technical job per-say, I think it best there being two of us here to do it. I think the hardest part of doing this job is actually getting sufficient compression on the new springs to get them on the car, they are seriously stiff.
      Just a point to note, the other day when I decided to have a go myself, I managed to get the front right off the car and I can report that the standard shock had nothing left to give. It had the absorption qualities of a piece of perspex, I was gutted to have to put it back on the car (albeit only for a few days). The job (subject to weather) is happening tomorrow and I really can't wait. I've noticed more and more over the last week that the front and rear standard suspension has nothing left to give. I'm envisaging the ride to be like riding a flying carpet when it's done I shall report back.

      I just thought I'd add that, if you're buying clamps then avoid this type; Fleabay item number 330461918884, unbelievably dangerous. The first time I tried them they slipped off and hit me in the bicep, cutting me open, not pleasant and a bit of pain to boot. The replacement item I bought is this type 110572577878, much safer but it's still not possible for all four hooks to be fully around the coil spring, but at least they don't slide about like the other ones. Incidentally these are not the sellers I bought from, just an equivalent item for references sake.

          TBH I only use a pair of sykes-pickevant spring compressors as they are heavy duty and are as safe as needed to be when holding a spring under compression even if the spring falls against the chassis the tool holds strong
          i suppose its another "get what you pay for" adage
          I'M ALWAYS IN THE SH'T, IT'S ONLY THE DEPTH THAT VARIES!!!!!!!!

            You're dead right Tonup. Well I am VERY happy to report that my kit is now completely installed All I can say is WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. My mate came along with his borrowed clamps and boy were they the dogs dangly bits.
            We still used the string for the fronts as they are seriously hard, didn't need to for the rears though as we used my "claw type" clamps just to give us that couple of inches that we needed for clearance.

              And here is the finished article, complete with a nice new set of off road boots!


              Not been on the road yet, but across the campo, through ditches, rutts and undulations it's a massive improvement to the std setup.

                  Basic road test done today and it's a big improvement. Less roll when cornering and less nose diving when braking. Speed bumps (yes we have a few here in Spain) are easier now, with the arse staying much firmer (I guess we all like a firm arse).
                  Thought I'd just throw in a couple more photos, now I know how to do em there'll be no stopping me
                  That's obviously the front, all tied up with washing line rope
                  And that's the rears. Shame the shocks don't match in colour though. I had the last set from RT before they changed the Desert Fox's for four Monroe Adventures. Still, I'll live with it.

                        Lift kit is going up for sale as soon as Koi makes the ad live - I don't have much time though Koi!
