Having been off road earlier today, the truck did not exceed more that about 2500rpm, was leaned over on some silly angles and generally had an unusual day from what it is used to.
Once back on road, the rpm was higher due to being able to go faster. One thing i found, especially on loading the engine and going uphill, was that it was really smoking quite badly from the exhaust at one stage. This was far more that what i would just call 'diesel smoking'. The smoke was very black in colour and there was plenty of it for a while.
What would cause the engine to do this? I appreciate it was a different type of driving and at higher revs than what it had just been doing all morning and afternoon.
Any suggestions, and is it anything to worry about?
The truck is a 3.0 ltr TD with manual 'box.
