  • No speedo for first couple of minutes, After switching to 4WD

Hello people... Im new, to this forum and to owning a hilux, so go easy on me

Bought my 1992 hilux surf 2.4 ssrx about 3 months ago and all has been fine with it.

I decided to test out the high ratio 4 wheel drive via the switch on gear stick. Went into 4WD fine, so i switched back to 2WD. I then realised that the speedo was reading zero, after about 2 minutes jumped back up to correct speed and stayed there rest of journey.

Now nearly every time i go for a drive, for the first 2 minutes of driving the speedo reads zero and then jumps up to the correct speed.

What could the problem be? what did switching to 4WD do?

I've been here about a week longer than you, but from what I've read you should never used 4WD on tarmac, only ever on slippy stuff or snow.

How this would affect your speedo, I honestly don't know; but I would _guess_ it has to do with the wind-up mentioned that happens when you do use 4WD on normal roads.

If the people on this forum don't know, then I really don't think anyone on this planet does.

    I'm deadly serious.
