Oxford... North... The Ginger dildo is a bladdy suvverners.. Well for at least another month !!
goodcat, your head is definitely rogered... Absolutely no doubt at all. If you don't want to so the job yourself, get stevo to do it. A cheap eBay head( roughly half the cost of a stevo job) will last a matter of months.
If you do replace cheaply, you will be doing the job again very soon. If you do replace cheaply, everyone will know and you will never sell your truck.
Stevo's phone number is on the ad at the top of the home page.Non intercooled nothing.

Nope. I still find that trait, (which you possess in droves), irritating and ignorant.
i was told by bushwacker that i need a new head cylinder........i then replied and said "DO I?"
the reply i was hoping to get from this wouldve been something like "afraid so mate. 9/10 times when the gasket goes it will crack the cylinder head.
i also asked him "wouldnt it be more obvious if my cylinder head was fcuked?"
the reason i asked him this was because i wasnt losing water and i know nothing about heads.
the reply i was expecting from this would be something like "unfortunately you wont know untill you take the head out and get it checked....but in my personal experience and others on here will agree, is that it will be cracked in places"
i never once told him he was wrong. please try and quote me saying otherwise.
i didnt ignore his advice. i was simply probing for more indepth answers/advice as opposed to simply "you head is fcuked"
has nothing to do with not wanting to face the fact that i have a large repair bill ahead of me.
also FYI i was only told once by one guy at this point that my head was fcuked. not five times as you had said.
i was curious to hear an explanation for his statement as i was given hope by the RAC guy that the cylinder head may be ok as i wasnt losing water from anywhere and because i pulled over before the temp gauge went in the read.
you couldve shed some reason as to why bushwacker suggested my cylinder head was fcuked whilst i was waiting for a reply from him but insted you jumped the gun, miss interpreted found english and simply cut me down.
im impressed at how well you know me and how well you know what im trying to say/ask more that i know myself. you should be a psychic.
anyway........i had already booked my surf in to get the head removed to get it tested after i posted.
it will only cost me £60 to have it stripped and removed and another £39 to get it tested.
worth while doing to find out if it is beyond replair as it wont break the bank in doing so. fingers crossed.
but im already expecting the worse and if thats the case i will replace it with a new head. luckilly my mate who fitted a new head (cylinder) to my other surf only charged me £150 to fit it. just have to source a new complete head from somewhere.
can anyone recomend where to get a new cylinder head from? with cams etc etc. and how much to expect to pay?
Roughtraxs do one for around £675 http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=11&cid=614. Is this ALL i need? and is it a brand new head or is it a refurbed head?
any other things i should replace when doing this? water pump etc or should all that stuff be ok?
thanks in advance.

I read about two sentences before I became bored shitless. All the info you want is easily available by searching. Plus the link at the top of the page for Stevo. Plus the multiple threads regarding heads recently in general. Wouldn't want you to strain yourself looking though.
Oh, and and if you want hand holding, break it gently responses, pay a mechanic to check it for you.

good cat,i just bought that same head, the head is a new amc head, built with camshaft etc,amc are the people that used to supply toyota, and as towhat lse that entirely your choice,i also did water pump as its an ar5e to get to ,i also changed stat and cap, plus with the gasket kit u get with that head,it covers pretty much everyone, only thing it doesnt tell u on there is,its an exchange unit and they charge 20 quid carriage on top for collection of old head, and i cant sing the praises of the new head enough tbh, spot on,only thing that annoyed me was that on the back of head at top, there is a semi circle cut out, opposite end to where camshaft connects to belt, new head doesnt come with it,dont forget to remove it from your old head

My head was bought from Stevo, I fit it myself. The head was top quality.
I would suggest a full flush out of the coolant system as well. if the antifreeze in the system was filled with toyota red it wont mix with the european stuff and tends to turn into gunge.Bring me the head of a treehugger
