  • No turbo after head gasket change...

I posted yesterday requesting vacuum hose destination information because although my KZN 130 1KZ-TE 3.0L diesel ran beautifully at tickover yesterday - when the hoses weren't even connected - and even managed a slight incline before the warning light illuminated, the turbo refused to kick in. No surprise you might justifiably say, except that now all the hoses are correctly connected it now runs worse. There is not an sniff of a turbo although the engine sounds great at tickover. I musbt have done something wrong or not be aware of something obvious. All the joints are airtight, nothing is loose and I have WD40'd all the electrical connections. I know that the ECU would give some sort of an indication but don't know how to source the information from it. Anyone got any bright ideas?

The vacuum hoses 100%. Downloaded the manual and had it in front of me whilst doing job. Checked and re-checked and then checked some more.

Sorry, I didn't explain that the vehicle had a blocked radiator and blew the head gasket and was only finished a couple of days ago. I realised that the hoses had no homes to go to and hence posted requesting vacuum hose destination information, assuming it would be down to that.

yes do a search on here for diagnostics, there will be a thread that will tell you how to do in an read the codes.

Normally the turbo works but the engine is in limp mode so no power

Refix that broken hose connector and see what symptoms you have then. Until the system is 100% reconnected, you may be looking for a nonexistent fault.

I'm guessing the broken pipe is off the boost sensor?

Possibly. Not sure of the hose placements on the 1KZ, so it could be owt.

I superglued it an hour ago and got a good bond but still no turbo. There is definately a vacuum to this VSV'ish item but the other end has a stainless steel nipple with a rubber surround - as if to grip onto a tiny filter/cover but which may now be absent. Does anyone know of a good Hilux mechanic in the Ruthin/Denbigh area? I would go further afield but don't believe I would make it out of the Vale of Clwyd to go in the Stockport (Stevo?) direction. Otherwise I'm stuck with a car that can only go on the flat and is destined never to see the seaside again...
