Panhard rod bracket

Any techies out there who would know what grade steel to fabricate a panhard rod drop bracket out of? I have the drawings and fabricators who specialise in making components for the R.A.F. standing by, but they wont touch it untill they know the steel specs!

Any info appreciated!

The easiest thing to do, and probably cheaper (well it was for me) is to extend the Rod. I have 2.5" lift in the rear and extended mine 10-12mm. Just cut it, put a rod in the centre and some new pipe around the outside and it looks factory.

I'll look into that, perhaps a combo of the two would do the job as the panhard should be as flat as poss to the axle! I know I only got 3" lift at the moment but my drivers side rear wheel sticks out about 3cm .

My problem is the dreaded Insurance co's What would they think of cutting the rod and fabbing up addtional brackets for the suspension!

Any comments from Insurance engineers? Rick any ideas?

Me too please. My new coils are due soon and I hadn't realised about the panhard rod extension . The drop bracket would seem the best solution. If you could either post it or PM it I'd appreciate it.

If you look at post below this one called 'look' by Hilux, on my contribution you will see a link to download this drawing!

It is not a strictly 'neccessary' mod but my tyre sticks out too far on the drivers side!

If I can get them made cheap enough I'll do few ,but i'm tied up for the next week or two so may not get round to it for a while!

If it was me, I'd cut the bracket in half, then just weld 3 pieces of flat metal inbetween to space it by the amount of lift.

Do it nice, cover with underseal and no one will be any wiser.

How much lift are you running? If its only 2" springs, I wouldn't bother anyway.

I agree Tony, that the way to go is to weld a section in, but at least with the bracket or panhard mod it's reversable if the insurance co's flatly refuse to cover you!

I dont know wether to leave it, or have a well engineered bracket made properly and mention it to insurers! I just seems wrong to have the axle skewed across to the o/s like its been hit sideways by a truck and crabbing down the road! It's an easy 3cm out!
I gotta admit it drives well and no probs on that score!

Back the the panhard rod -
Just spoke to roughtrax who said that as long as you use the left spring on the left and the right on the right, there should be no need for the bracket.

Gonna fit mine and test.
