ARB Bushes, Does Anyone Know Why?

Thats the first time I've seen cup washers either side of the MOUNT itself. They're only required in the outer positions. The mount itself does the job of the cupwasher on the inner side. What you have now is metal on metal, on a flexible joint. It's only gonna wear something, and probably the non-replaceable mount.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

The reason I am befuddled is that the ones I took off had the 2 cup washers on either side of the bush.
It threw me and I wondered what was the right way!
I would tend to totally agree with you mate, it makes more sense!Last edited by hellmett; 21 February 2009, 20:41.

Cup washer->bush->mount<-bush<-cup washer.
Hellmett, I'll just add that I do apologise unreservedly for my earlier post. My disposition shouldn't affect a response, and I appreciate that my initial reply could have been misconstrued somewhat due to being a tad vague. My apologies.

Matt, it takes a big man to apologise. Respec'
Yeah, the order Matt posted is correct. The inner two washers are superfluous.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Re
Matt,
Apology accepted mate!
As far as the rest goes, thank #### I now understand how to put them on!
I've had them on, off, on with washers, off again etc. etc. etc.
I now have to take them off again, groan!
My back is killing me and to top it all the ###### Surf fell on me when the jack gave in!
(Oil operated the seal went).
It landed on my shoulder, if I hadn't of had the wheel under the the rear diff I would have been squashed!
Scared the pish out of me!
Kerist! a Surf is one heavy motor!
Just lifting one of the wheels nearly gave me a connery!
Cheers fellas!Last edited by hellmett; 21 February 2009, 21:14.

Gary, thankyou. Again, sorry for my behaving like a t1t earlier.
Would you like that I delete my second post, btw, or leave it as is? I've not touched it yet as I don't like to hide my mistakes. (Plus it gives you the complete and provable moral highground over myself). If you wish, however, I will delete it.Last edited by MattF; 21 February 2009, 21:17.

It all depends on the bushes as to what/where cup washers are used. If you look at the ARB chassis mount there is quite a big hole in it. Toyota have one cup washer with a lip to sit in the hole at the top to centralize everything. I reused this one with new bushes along with a washer at the top and botom of the rod. If you have a bush with a lip that fits the hole and which will centralize the rod then I think you could leave out the Toyota locating washer. If you don't locate the rod centrally then I imagine it would wear or get noisy.

Getting the rod mounted centrally is quite important so I am trying to figure a way around this.
The new cup washers are generic and don't have any lip.
They move around quite easily so maybe something to "pack out" the rod is in order!
