Head upgrade question

Gman took your advice & got a new belt. Fitted it as you explained with timing marks all lined up first two cam lobes up & rear two down. Turning crank clockwise engine turns over but with a metalic clang each revolution. Is this normal or do you think it is the valves hitting the pistons?
Jeez, I wish I could afford to take it to a garage
