Hi, have just bought a 1998 surf 2.4 here in Swaziland ( the usual Jap import model) and as usual have bought the thing first and then looked on the internet to find out about it. I'm worried by all the talk of cracked heads and overheating. Mine seems to run fine at present. Our temperature is up in the 30's at the moment yet it still runs fine and the temp gauge sits in the middle, up hill and down vale.
My question is whether the cracked heads are inevitable or is there some magic way that it can be avoided with the correct maintenance. I only use it as a work truck lugging building materials short distances but as I say it gets hot here and there are many steep hills and I cant afford big repair bills.
I would be greatful of anyones advice as to how to prevent any serious engine damage. I am a reasonably competant home mechanic.
Heres hoping to benifit from your experience.
