Running Colder???

Greetings!

My Surf seems to be running a LOT cooler for some reason?

The temp gauge needle ALWAYS (for the last 4 years!) was just below center and now it only hovers just over 1/4?

Is this a pelude to something bad happening?

I have looked after her VERY well and have done nothing major to the engine but the usual servicing!

Other than that she runs like a dream!

I am stumped as to why this has happened!

Has anyone any suggestions?

Hi mate, have you changed your thermostat? It could be stuck open and circulating all the time, thus generally colder running temps. Cant think it would lead to major upsets, while you change that, change the cap aswell. If not, may be the gauge getting stuck. Is your coolant going down at all?

Ive an auxiliary temp gauge as alot have.

Now that you come to mention it, I changed the thermostat and rad cap recently and WAS a bit suspect about the thermostat!

It seemed to be open all the time because when I squeezed the pipe to the rad it was "gushing" whereas before it seemed watertight!

(You know what I mean!)

Is it possible a brand new thermostat is faulty?

Possibly! Ask bushy where is the best place to get one? If he's feeling helpfull

Deffinately possible that a new t/stat is faulty.

I reckon the best place to get one is your local toyota dealer.
