The only electric fan Is as Nev says, the air con fan in front of the Rad on a 3.0. the best advice is to check out the viscous fan and fit an additional ATF cooler!
But depending on the weight you tow, you can still get fluctuations in the temp gauge on long inclines when towing!
Cheers

Trucks with underslung aircon rad ALSO have fans on the rad underneath, all trucks have the electric fan in front of the rad.
Early and really late 2.4's, and all 3.0's have the aircon rad infront of the main rad, the front electric fan works as a engine temp back up, and for cooling the aircon rad when you switch the A/C on.
Trucks with unslung A/C rads only use the front fan for engine temp duties as the A/C has its own fans underneath.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

Originally posted by midalexNeil is right as we've discussed before. The electric fan is operated by two relays in the engine compartment, when the temp starts to rise the first cuts out the air con leaving the fan running, if temp rises further 2nd doubles speed of fan. My fan was shot so renewed, but did not cure problem. Fitted 19 row atf cooler, some improvement. refilled viscous fan, more improvement. Had radiator recored (now 3 instead of 2), job done! fingers crossed. Now towing 1600kg twin axle & gauge never moves from normal.

I'm a little stuck for the best one to get.

Hi Jon
Most radiator repair specialists stock them now,Sercks are our local guys, IMHO get the largest one that you can fit comfortably behind the grill. I got one from Demon Tweeks (25 row) approx £100 some time ago. I took popular opinion from an OZ forum and fitted after the inbuilt rad cooler with a dedicated fan!
No!! Not I think the best solution.
I really believe, after 3 years of experimentation, that Its better to kill the heat before It goes into the rad cooler and to that effect I now have one in the bash plate with quick release connections before the rad cooler and one behind the front grill after the rad cooler!
You may not need this extreme fix, but I tow 1750kgs ish and even with a 3 core rad I still saw 113 Degrees towing up a Devon hill this summer and the toyota gauge moved across to 2/3 of Its range!!! Though not in the RED! Atf temp hit about the same!(113 degrees)and although the factory ATF warning light comes on at 120+ degrees approx, It's never come on! But thats about as much as I feel comfortable with, so of course I slow down and It always goes back to normal pretty quick! Must say I am not gunning It up hills, It's normally between 2000-2500RPM.
Hi Mick, Quick question for you mate ,does the fan overide come on when the a/c isn't engaged? As I have a manual overide of this fan I use when going up those big long hills! I doesn't seem to do much but I guess It all helps!
Hope this gives some more background info, for every one who has a Surf heat prob, there are probably many more who haven't!
Cheers

my cooler is a mocal which is similar to a serc. £100 inc pipes & fittings. I got it from Licolnshire radiators who also did my recore. I fitted it behind the grill and piped in before the in rad one. But like others have said youwill get a big improvement by filling the viscous fan.
Hi Neil
I also fitted an override to the fan and like yours it didn't seem to do much with air con on or off. Lincs rads scourced the 3 core from Liverpool and is a high volume one but it was bl00dy expensive, £221. Still it seems to be doing the job. Off to Yorkshire this weekend to give it another test.
Cheers
