Just how OK are BF Goodrich A/Ts for everyday road use. i.e how slippery are they on wet tarmac and how noisy are they. What are they like at high motorway speeds and cornering.

I know they're 50% on-road and 50% off-road tyres, but I don't think I want road tyres, as I do use some forest tracks from time to time which have a lot of sharp stones and a bit of mud. However, I do do a lot of daily commuting on tarmacadam roads and I want a tyre that is quiet, and grips well at high-speeds and on cornering.

BFG A/Ts only have a Q speed rating <99mph, by the way, and they are a slightly larger diameter 31x10,5x15 than the standard 265/70R15, by one inch, so the speedo will have a percentage error (watch the speed cameras!)

I know about the BFG Long Trail. Any recommendations on that one? I don't like the look of the tread pattern much.

BY the way does everyone else find it difficult to find a tyre centre that actually has quality (i.e non-budget) All Terrain tyres in stock. YOu can't even get the 'Bridgestone A/T with UNI-T' tyres in this country, I've tried, and yet they're on the Bridgestone website.

    Hi Martyn...

I've had BFG A/T's on mine for a few months now and I'm well pleased with them. There was very little noticeable difference in noise between the BFG's and my road tyres. The road handling is good too, I've never yet had them slip at all on the roads... they also handle very well off road...

As for a supplier... Micheldever Tyres is where mine came from - next to Micheldever station (Nr Andover) give them a ring - if they arn't at the garage they'll have them in their warehouse and can get them to the garage very quickly.

    good luck m8!!

Same as Linda, the BFG A/T's were actually better than the road biased tyres I had on before.

They will slide with provocation as expected but are very controlable even whilst sliding
If life's an uphill struggle then downhill from now on can't be that bad?!

BFG Long Trails are an 80% road 20% off road, they are very good

My (Tyre fitter) and off-rading looney bro' has recommended some Avon ones that I cant remember the details of. He rates the Avon ones highly and they are about £35 apiece cheaper than the BFG's. He did say that we are paying more for the American Tyre size, when there is a direct metric equivalent. Good enough for Rolls Royce and the British Army, he do say!
          It's only a hobby!

Expect you are talking about Avon Rangemasters.

BFG ATs are a great tyre for the surf. As said b4 no road noise, well behaved, and decent of road. Also durablility is very good you can expect over 50K miles from a set. I had them fitted 5 years ago, done 85K kms on them and still have 8mm tread left.

Fitted 30x9.5x15 last time but would be tempted to fit 31" next time
