  • Procomp ES2000 heavy duty steering damper

Fitted one of these last night, only minor problem was getting bolts into cross memeber for new bracket, but a crowbar helped to pull cross memeber down to fit them.
Then kit was missing 2 nuts and bolts for one of the U-shackes...
    but got that sorted.

I notice steering is a bit heavier now at slow speeds,
it has cured the shaking on truck, but has really reduced it, so not so annoying.

Last year I fitted a new standard damper from milners, that made no difference. I reckon I could ahve left the standard one on the truck, and fitted the ES2000 - but would probably strain the steering pump with 2 dampers on steering!

I suspect steering box is knackered, as clonks even when adjusted. And if i adjust it too much it then binds. Most noticeable when offroading on rought stoney tracks and going down hill, as steering shifts from side to side can feel something loose in steering box through steering wheel.
Have replaced all other balljoints in system!

Know it's probably a daft question, have you checked your steering idler?
Did I mention I have a BLUE one

put new bushings in the idler last year
and when looking where the arm goes into the bracket - you can easily tell if idler worn by seeing if there is any gap in the crud!
at the point where the idler twists,
there is a tiny gap in mine in crud - about >0.5mm
if there was a huge 1-2mm gap I would be worried

Also - when I put a new pitman arm on,
I could feel this looseness in box, when moving the pitman arm from side to side - this was without the pitman arm being connected to relay rod - SO isolated from rest if steering system
