HELP 1994 3.0ltr automatic gear box intermittant problem. It will not change up into top gear and you have to rev higher than normal to make it go up through the other gears. checker o/d button and a it is engaged. i have twice taken it to a specialist who has cleaned all electrical connections but no problem found and the box worked fine for 10 days untill the same problem returned. cleaned connections again and it is working now, but they could not actually find a problem. any ideas. could it be something to do with the throttle possition sensor ????

    Quite easy to check...

    TPS - http://toyotasurf.asn.au/forum/view...5&highlight=tps

Found in the results page, searching for TPS

Sorry nifty dont follow you? the engine does not race. i have found that if you slacken the screws on the tps you can twist it a bit and the revs go up or down but this is not really my problem

I don't think your problem is the TPS.I think you have allready answered your own question when you say all was ok after cleaning connections.I'd say you need to look closer at what terminals were cleaned and check for loose wiring, corrosion or faulty plug.
