  • 3rd gen ringing noise

I've searched the forum for a "ringing" noise but can't find an answer for one like this.
Have found one on the 2nd gen and with problems with worn bronze bushes on the driveshafts, but not on the 3rd gen and I think my noise is different anyway!
The noise starts as soon as you move, you can only hear it with the windows down. It apears to be coming from both sides at the front and sounds like a "triangle" being dragged along the ground and it increases with road speed.
Tried looking at the usual things like exhaust brackets and loose engine bash plates but no luck so far.
    Any help or advise appreiciated.
    Thanks

Check your front disc pads. Could be worn down as I believe there is a wear indicator on them. That would definitely get louder as you speed up.

Thanks guys, but the discs and pads were replaced when I brought it in and have only done a 1000 miles or so. I've checked the calipers and anti squeel shims and all seems OK. Any more ideas?

Checked that as well, but the noise is at the front and I've got the tin cans tied to the back bumper, not the front!!

A small stone caught between the disc and stone guard?

Disc rubbing on the stone guard?

Does the noise stop when in AWD?

                  Driveshaft gaiter clip loose?

A triangle tied to the front bumper, being hit by a tiny person counting the cats-eyes in the road as you drive past them?

Years ago I had a similar noise on an auto, it turned out to be a bent dust/inspection plate on the lower part of the bell housing that was catching on the flywheel, it only did it when in gear and driving.

It was a real simple fix ( after having the whole engine nd gearbox out after advice from three different mechanics)

                              Still working for the man!
