Hello,
I have just had my 1991 3.0 V6 serviced for the first time - it has 135,000 km's on the clock and I have no service history - so, I put it in for a service and they recommended the "80,000 km" service and a timing belt change.
I dropped the vehicle off this morning at 08:30, picked it up at 15:30 and parted with £377 - now, that seemed a bit steep to me - does this sound right to anybody on this forum ? I think it included oil and filter change, brake shoe cleaner ?? LABOUR - oh, and a timing belt ...
I was also concerned about a couple of other things that I asked them to check :-
1 - excessive heat being felt through the centre bulk carpet, by my left foot
2 - a bad grinding/creaking when turning on full lock
The first I have been told has been checked, and the gearbox oil is fine, and that the heat is normal due to such a large "lump" ( I translated to engine ) in my 4-Runner.
The second was dryed out steering ends ? - they have greased them up.
Anyway, the creaking / grinding has stopped so that is ok.
I know that I am ranting, it's just that I was shocked by the bill - so I'm gonna use this great resource more often and try and learn how to do things myself now.
Does anybody know a good value mechanic who knows how these vehicles need to be maintained in the Harpenden, Luton, St. Albans area, or even Coventry ?
Thanks.
Neil.
