  • vacum hose (4wd trans)

has anyone ever repalced a vacum hose for the 4wd transmission? the only ones in the search relate to other things.
it is to do with my 4wd not engaging the front axle. in a previous thread someone suggested that this may be my problem. i have also sopken to a mechanic that says he worked on a pajero that had the same problem and it turned out it just needed a new hose to the front axle diff.
this sounds like a really easy job as by my reckoning, you just plug a bit of pipe in at either end.
my haynes mentions nothing of it.
...i dont have a clue what a vacum hose is or what it does but if its simple for ANYBODY WITH NO KNOWLEDGE to do then ill give it ago.
    cheers
ps. i would lay down underneth but you know, its wet..might get a dirty back etc...

The attachment is a schematic of the vacum system. I have a file on testing the system and hose etc but it is too big to post to the Forum. If you drop me your Email address I can post it direct to you.

Those dammed hoses . Found about 4 splits in mine. One of them was only visible by removing the gaiter etc round the gear lever.
The 4wd operates by a complicated system of switches and vacuums which work in series to lock your front diff.
My main problem was a faulty seal meaning the motor jammed with mud.

On the manual box I dont remember any connection between the main engine bay based vacuum system and the transfer box vacuum system. There is one vacuum hose on the transfer box which runs from the general transfer lever area down to the solenoid area at the rear of the box.

I have a non-electric hilux transfer box in my surf. Hence pulling the transfer lever down selected H4 in the box and moving it right and forward selected L4, yet there was no drive getting to the front wheels. Up steps TonyN on his fleeting visit to Eire and says ah your ADD isnt getting the signal to kick in from the transfer box, and thats what it was. I was able to find the wiring to the original box and locate a simple connector which plugged into the rear of the T-box quite apart from the other wiring, and on closing the circuit between the two wires in the connector the 4WD light came on at the dash and the ADD connected the front wheels to the diff.
The point I'm gettin at is that in order to skip a few hurdles to find the culprit someone might do what I did and find the ADD works at least.

Upshot of it is I can have Low 2wheeldrive when I want

I am having a similar problem with my 4WD. Would it be too cheeky to ask for a copy too? My e-mail address is; gary@coxhead.co.uk TIA
