Auto Aerial Problem

3rd Generation 1997 P Reg. Surf
The auto aerial goes up when the radio is turned on as expected and comes down when turned off as expected, but when listening to a CD etc. the aerial remains in the up position - this occurs with both my old and my new radio, and I have been assured it should go down when listening to a CD etc.

I have the wiring diagram in front of me, which shows two wires (B-Y and P-B) going to the back of the radio. I have never had a standard radio in the car so don't know if both of these should go to the blue wire from the back of the radio, as they are now (joined by a bullet connector to the Blue from the radio).
Can anyone help please - maybe it is simply a case of splitting these two wires, but to what I don't know!

I have the original Radio/CD/Tape/TV unit in my 2001 3rd gen. If I select CD before switching the unit on, the aerial stays down.

Hmmm

That would suggest that the two wires are meant to be independent of each other, but I still have no idea how to wire it up properly then!

I just fit a new Sony unit to mine & that only goes up with the radio on & stays down on cd & when on the phone "Bluetooth".
My old alpine stayed up all the time regardless & both units are wired exactly the same.

Do you remember which wire(s) you attached to the blue wire from the radio - was it one wire or are there two joined together?

According to this the two antenna wires are joined....

It was all factory plugs with no joining of anything.
